Morning sessions was on the Indigenous People, human rights and the environment. We were taught on the topic about exploring, understanding the linkages and the framework principles. We're assigned to chose which part of the Framework principles on human rights and the environment that apply to our organisation.

FRAMEWORK PRINCIPLES ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND THE ENVIRONMENT

I chose Articles No. 1 as it touch on States should ensure a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment in order to respect, protect and fulfil human rights.

Human beings are part of nature, and our human rights are intertwined with the environtment in which we live. Environment harm interferes with enjoyment of human rights, and the exercise of human rights helps to protect the environment and to promote sustainable development.

I also chose article No. 2 as it touch on States should respect, protect and fulfil human rights in order to ensure a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment.

The framework principles on human rights and the environment summarize the main human rights obligations relating to the enjoyment of a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment.
They provide integrated and detailed guidance for practical implementation of these obligations, and a basis for their further development as our understanding of the relationship of human rights and the environment continues to evolve.

How are these article related to our organisation?

I mentioned that we're involved with an organisation that provides electricity to the rural area through micro hydro. The indigenous people in the rural area have the rights to have this basic necessity that the Government should have provided ages ago. When we do a micro hydro project, we also include the watershed programme so that there're certain area that will be protected from any activities by the vilager. We even provide walter filter to the community.

Overall, it was a tiring day for me because there're too much information by the lecturer. I don't understand some of the topic given...or its my heart telling me that I miss home..LOL.
