Day 11 - Final Day of Human Rights Training
Day 11, at last our final day of training. We started our day with instruction and guidance from the lecturer on how we are going to do the Role Play in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) for Malaysia.
Background of Geneva ...just to get the mood.
The Scenario
Malaysia will be reviewed in the Human Rights Council as part of the UPR process in October/November 2018. We're to make a role play based on the review of Malaysia at the Human Rights Council UPR working group taking place in Geneva in 2018.
The Role-play
Participants are asked to take on the following roles:
- The Government of Malaysia
- Human Rights NGOs from Malaysia
- National Human Rights Institutions
- International NGOs
- The President of the Human Rights Council
- Member of the UN Human Rights Council
The Process
Each participants have 1.5 hours to prepare their positions and to engage in lobbying/dialogue with others in the process.
After the presentation, there are some feedback from the lecturer and from the participants on the role play.
It was fun to be in the role play. I chose to be the Government of Malaysia in the role play. I got the chance to be mean and diplomatic at the same time...LOL.
