Upvote things you really think have value!
Genuinely comment on people's posts!
What I live by:
Don't post too often, generally 5-10 times a day is good (your voting power diminishes as you post and upvote more)
Don't vote too often (for the same reason as #1)
Put out content you truly like in the hopes that others will also like it
Follow more people (There is a likelihood that they will also follow you back)
Don't spam or scam
Have fun
