Missionaries in South America, found in love the flower accessory that symbolizes the suffering of Christ. Five boxes and five petals symbolized the ten "faithful disciples" of Christ, excluding Judas and Peter. Leaf – the symbol of the spear which had pierced the body of Christ, the five stamens – the five wounds, lint – rope, the crown of thorns, the calyx the nimbus, white – purity, blue – heaven. Also called the passion flower, the symbol of loyalty and piety.
