Does anyone else think it's messed up you can buy Steem Power?
How is this any different than the problems with people buying political influence in countries like the United States. You should not be able to buy influence in the system, it should be earned based on your contributions. I understand the need for capital although that could have been raised differently as well. Why not limit purchased Steem Power holdings to just receiving the proportional amount of the 15% annual inflation allocated to paying Steem Power holders? Maybe it wouldn't be a good investment, I'm not sure what the numbers look like? Anyone have any thoughts?
Not really sure, but I think that Steem would be a totally different ecosystem if Steem Power could not be bought. It might actually be better though... And plus it might even be able to combat inflation when people power down their power... Not sure.
@shredz7
Ya, I wonder what proportion of Steem Power held by the whales and even smaller holders is earned vs. bought. It would be interesting to see if it's actually an issue. Maybe it would be possible to get that information from the blockchain?
It would be possible, I’ll do some research
Have you worked with steem blockchain data before? I saw SteemSQL which seems like it would have been ideal for this but now there is a fairly significant fee to use it. It's probably fairly resource intensive to use sbds to get the raw block chain data but I'm not sure.
Yeah steemjs can’t do it... Looks like, yes, SteemSQL will have to be used. I am doing some DAPP development, but not for steem... It’s probably not feasible. It would be nice if steem was more transparent in these ways.
