IMPROVE POST QUALITY, DISCOVER NEW CONTENT & GET MORE FOLLOWERS/UPVOTES - New Steemit Add-On Has Been Updated! :)
I have just updated my Add-on for Steemit that helps you find new followers and engagement on Steemit.
This tool searches for posts that are similar to the one currently viewed in Steemit, so you can make sure you aren't duplicating content and can find like minded Steemians who are also interested in your topics.
Latest Updates & Changes
- You can now view similar posts for any of your own posts you are currently viewing in Steemit, not just a new post that you are creating.
- I have also removed the restriction to only show posts from the last 7 days, since DuckDuckGo appears to have some issues with identifying recent posts on Steemit.
To update
If you have already installed this plugin, just go to the relevant area in tamermonkey or whichever other plugin you are using and click 'check for updates'.

This tool is intended to help you to improve your post quality on Steemit and the uniqueness of your posts. It can also connect up like minded Steemians quite well too.
However, it also makes the opposite easier too - in that it is now simpler to search for posts to copy from and to also spam with your links. DO NOT DO THAT - You will run the risk of losing reputation, of downvotes and of maybe even being banned. Just use the tool as is intended and all will be well!
Installation
This is an addon that runs using the Tampermonkey / Greasemonkey Addons for common web browsers. I am using Tampermonkey here and this is how I set it up:
- Go to your browser's addons/extensions area - e.g. Firefox's can be found via Firefox's main menu at: Tools->Add-Ons (Keyboard Shortcut = Ctrl + Shift + A).
- Search for 'Tampermonkey' in the main search bar.
- Install Tampermonkey by clicking 'Install' next to the Tampermonkey row in the search results.
- Visit the page for my Add-on at either OpenUserJS or Greasyfork.
- Install the script by clicking 'Install' (You may need to then click install on the next page too).
- Use Steemit!
That's it.
How to use
You will now see a new button appear in Steemit when you create a new post marked 'Show Similar Posts. The script uses your new post's Title and Tags to search Steemit via DuckDuckGo (A privacy focussed Search Engine) and shows you all posts that might be similar to your new one. If you do not add any title or tags then you cannot run the search.
Just click the new button and the search results will open in a new browser tab. From there you can read through the list of posts from Steemit that are similar to yours.
You could use the list to:
- Find new friends who are interested in the topics that you are posting about.
- Improve the uniqueness of your new post by making sure that you aren't duplicating what others have already written. This is a good idea since uniqueness is what attracts votes and readers on Steemit more than most other things.
- Find posts that you can write TACTFUL and friendly comments under which point people to your new post - so that interested folks can discover your work while engaging with similar material.
Future Versions
I would like to integrate the search results right into the Steemit.com origin page - but I am blocked from doing that due to Steemit.com's security policy. If anyone knows of a way to get around that then let me know.

You cannot be banned, where did you get that idea?
I was told by someone that they saw someone banned as a result of his interactions with cheetah - i don't know all the details.
It's not true, you cannot be banned.
ok, i don't know either way. the guy i spoke with said he saw it happen. how do you know you can't be banned? what if you are breaking major laws in your posts?
Even then the account cannot be banned, or moderated in any way, the witnesses might delete the data on the block that the account posted, but they cannot touch the account. Look into it, ask around especially that guy, that guy is lying, or doesn't know what he's talking about, either way it's not true.
ok, i'll keep an eye open on the subject.
i think if you get downvoted enough you hit -1 which is probably what people mean by being banned as you basically cant post!

Can users really be banned here?
I have not seen that myself, I am just going on what I was told by someone else - I am open to finding an absolutely proven answer either way.
From what I understand, nobody can ban you here, that's the point of the blockchain - everything is recorded there. The only thing you can do is mute somebody from the steemit interface which means you personally will not see their posts through this interface, but it can by no means stop them from transacting with the blockchain.
