It's particularly helpful for someone like me who's still trying to figure out how to use the site - today is my first day on Steemit, BTW.

I published my first post few hours ago and got 3-4 comments. If I'm not mistaken, one of them had asked me for follow-for-follow.

I did follow, not only that individual but all of those who commented; I didn't know any better then.

I Googled "follow for follow on Steamit" and there you are - the first result, on the first page, of the Google search. Whooaa! You've just redeemed my soul.
