RE: DOs and DON'Ts For Newbies And Not Only

in #steemit6 years ago

Excellent article, @erikah.

This site is nothing like the other Social Networks out there, it's normal that many people find themselves a bit lost and without knowing what behaviour they should adopt.

Hopefully, this post of yours will help some of them.

About the self vote thing, I have been here for almost a year and I still don't understand exactly how it affects the rewards of the users voting after it.

If someone can explain, I'd appreciate. Should I vote my own posts or not? If yes, should I vote ahead of everyone, to give visibility to the post? Or should I wait for the 4th or 5th day, before upvoting my own posts? And why?

Thanks for your suggestions and opinions. 😃

Thank you very much for your support and nice words.
About self voting. According to the old system, before HF20, self voting was very popular because: "If a post is upvoted the moment of posting, 100% of the curation reward goes to the author." source Which meant that if you upvote your own post the minute you post it, you were the only beneficiary of it.
Now after HF20 it's recommended to wait 15 minutes before voting a post, regardless who's post it is.

I've been a self voter at the beginning because I needed any reward I could get in order to grow and those $0.02 meant something. Then I met Asher, @abh12345 and his Engagement League and stopped upvoting my own posts, not because of the League, but because it's not nice to upvote your own posts.

I'm still a nobody here, with only 830 SP, 90 of which is delegated, so my full 100% upvote means $0.04 at the moment. But there are others with a lot of SP, their upvote means a lot. There were many discussions about this, saying that these users are practically raping the reward pool.

In conclusion, I'm never going to upvote my own posts :)
