STEEMIT FOR DUMMIES - 7 LESSONS I HAVE LEARNED SO FAR

in #steemit8 years ago

Hi everybody,

I have just finished my 30 day challenge of writing every day one meaningful post on Steemit and I would like to share with you the most important things that I have learned during those days.

ONLY READ FURTHER IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT STEEMIT!!

"It as been one hell of a ride, I started out as a newbie with a reputation of 25 and no money in my wallet. In only a month of writing I am at 54,4 and will have a balance valued at around 250 USD."

NUMBER ONE - FOLLOW @CURIE

If you haven't heard of this account, follow it immediately and start browsing through their WEEKLY update posts, like this one https://steemit.com/curation/@curie/curie-weekly-update-22nd-october-to-29th-october-2017. Scroll down till you reach the list with all of the accounts that have gotten a vote from curators. Click on the accounts and start following the ones that you find interesting. It is quite a long job, but in my opinion one of the best ways to find your way in the huge mess of accounts on Steemit. Follow only what you really like.

@Curie basically does the endless searching through accounts for you and makes your life a lot easier. This way you don't need to sift through the never expanding meaningless posts that are being put on Steemit every minute.

The reason why this is so important, is that this way you can create a feed that you really enjoy reading and interacting with. If you are not a bot, this is the only reason why you should be on Steemit; to interact with the people you find interesting and to create useful content you they can interact with you. It is also the only way you'll keep up being on this platform.

As a bonus, you might get picked up by one of their curators, as I was lucky enough to be picked up by @geekgirl (a big thank you to you by the way).

NUMBER TWO - PUT AN EFFORT IN YOUR POSTS

My first posts were very basic. No real markdown styling or a lot of though in the general look of my posts. Now I think it is one of the most important things to think about when you want to write a post. If you want to get noticed in the mass of new posts, think about how you can be different.

YOU WANT TO STAND OUT OF THE CROWD

Learn how to:
  • Center images
  • Use h1,h2,h3 tags
  • Make columns
  • Use dividers
  • AND lists like this one

It will make your posts visually appealing and more likely to be UPVOTED.

NUMBER THREE - CREATE A FOLLOW ME BUTTON

At the bottom of your posts, link an image to your account to make it easier for people to follow you. Use an image you find in google or use Adobe Illustrator to create a funky one yourself. You can easily find the url of your account by clicking on your profile picture in the top right.

NUMBER FOUR - USE A GOOD PROFILE PICTURE AND BACKGROUND FOR YOUR ACCOUNT

The easiest way to do this, is to create a new post, upload the picture you want as your profile or background and paste the URL in your profile. It took me a while to figure this out, but this works very well.

NUMBER FIVE - NEVER STOP LEARNING

Steemit is one giant maze with different things that are being developed every day, insane how much there is to learn. So, invest time in researching stuff that can be of interest to you. Like upvoting bots, streemian, dtube, busy.org, what are whales, etc... It seems there is no limit to the possibilities of this network, it is up to you to find out how far you want to take it.

NUMBER SIX - UPVOTE YOUR OWN POST

And, of course choose wisely which other posts you upvote. Don't upvote before 15 minutes that a post has been written. Ideally you want to be one of the first ones before right before the 30 minute mark. Also, don't use an auto-vote system, in my opinion you want to be authentic and vote and comment when you are actually present and want to interact, that way you'll gain more respect from the community.

NUMBER SEVEN - ASK QUESTIONS & COMMMENTS

Like this one:

'WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED AS A NEWBIE?'

Please answer in the comment section, I upvote any comment that has not been posted by a bot or an automated system.

Cheers and keep on steeming!!!

PS: For those who don't know me, I am an entrepreneur, designer, outdoor sports fan and live in a converted schoolbus with my girlfriend, my dog and my two and a half year old daughter Fenna. This summer we have just spend four months in Norway with our hostel on wheels (which you can join). This winter will travel around Austria and go back to Norway. My life is quite different from the regular daily 9-5 routine and in my regular blog posts I share some more insights into how we live our lives on the road.
