Elrond Community

With the expansion of the network more and more users join (dapps come into play and end-users increases), a network of validators increases, the need to support horizontal scaling and to protect the system from known velocities where the segmentation was defined as proven.

Sharding is a scaling tactic used to separate and process parts of the world in blockchain development, so that each node can only contain part of the common operations in parallel with other nodes. Breaking the blockchain will allow it to process many transactions in a parallel state as long as the nodes needed to process or approve for transaction reliability are in place. That's why Elrond relies on three types of shards:

Our next sprint will lead to our full prototype and focus on improving the efficiency of the network by applying various consensus optimizations and adding a primitive grinding layer.
