[HK Stories #1] Offering seat culture in HK (Sympathy against Empathy?)

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Offering seat to anyone in need is always a virtue and it is always appreciated. In recent years, our main transportation supplier MTR have set for a priority seat for those in need. Their idea is good but it turns out with severe criticism from the public.

Priority seat mainly targets four groups of people: Elderly, Children, Pregnant women and Physically disabled. So does it mean that others cannot be seat? Are they the only one in need? These doubts are still being questioned by the public. And there even be cases of citizens sitting on the priority seat being humiliated by the elderly of not letting seat to them. When you see this case, you may think those citizens must be unsympathetic, but how if they are really tired after work? How if they are sick? Aren't they are also the one in need?

Because of similar cases happened in Hong Kong, most people rather stand and pack with people in peak hour but they won't sit on the ''humiliation seat''.

For me, I think the setting of priority seat is nonsense. Even there is not specific seats for them, people will still offer seat to them. On the other hand, if they are unsympathetic, they won't do so even they are seating on the priority seat. All depends on whether people are caring or not.

Sympathy against empathy? Nope! Should be Empathy induces Sympathy! Steemians, do be a empathetic and inclusive people. If you wish to know more about stories in HK or other ways to startup business, please follow me on @toddwong123
