Thought of the day: Steemit Chivalry

in #steemit9 years ago (edited)

This thought comes from a place of love and concern, not hate!

A small tip, more of a request to all new comers or others too on steemit!

Has it ever happened to you that you commented on somebody's post and they flagged you! And then you wonder "what did I do so wrong?". Well it's time you take a good hard look on your comment.
I know when you start out here you want a lot of followers, you want people to know you! Perhaps you are really talented and your work deserves to be acknowledged. If you really want this to happen please correct this one mistake of yours.

Many times I post something, and I get comments like "great post. Please check out my channel" or "upvoted! Please follow me and upvote!" . Numerous times I have seen such comments and believe me it has the exact opposite effect on the person reading it. My blood starts to boil. I'm like is that all you have to say? Is that all you can contribute after all the effort I put into my work you emotionless prick.

There are number of reasons for it!

  1. It shows you did not read the post at all, because you didn't have anything to say other than great post, follow me.
  2. Shows you are a very inconsiderate and selfish being who even bothered to comment not because you were impressed but because you want followers and upvotes.
  3. You risk being seen as a spammer!

You come off as a greedy and senseless person. And mark my words nobody is going to follow or upvote you this way. You really want followers? And upvotes?

Start being actually involved in their posts.

Read their post, or even get atleast an idea of what's happening in that post. And then comment something to do with that post. Let the person know that you actually did find their post interesting. Share your own thoughts about the topic too. Engage in it properly. This, will let the person posting know that you're an active reader/ follower/ steemian who actually gave a shit!
Don't be marching into someone's blog and asking for upvotes. That be low bruh! Earn those followers and upvotes. Do something to actually deserve those.
When you get followers this way, they last long and they also then give a shit about your posts.

I implore you that ponder over this and make this positive change in your approach.

Live long and Prosper <3

Thank you for sharing with us! I hope you enjoy the upvote!

Thank you!

Big up vote from me. I am new here and haven't posted much but I can see this behaviour everywhere. Your advice should be part of a README or something that all new users should see. It's just basic ettiquette.

Thanks man. You get me! I just get hurt when I get those comments like whyyyyy. I'm glad you agree!

I guess it's just because there are a lot of new users and they don't know any better. Well, innocent until proven guilty anyway ;)

I just became numb, and good at ignoring. My readers usually downvote them lol.

It used to annoy beyond levels. Like you can see they didn't even bother reading my post. Selfish jerks. I'm learning that ignoring thing. Heheh.

I am a proud downvoter aswell who basically yells, "GTFO THE TOP OF MY COMMENTS" to the laptop.

Yeah, it can be quite annoying that they are at the top of the comment section.

They always upvote their useless spam :c
