Daniel Larimer is a software programmer. Larimer created the cryptocurrency platform BitShares (2014), was co-founder of the blockchain social platform Steemit (2016), and is CTO of EOS. Lots of people believe that his latest effort EOS is really brilliant next move. I haven't spent the time researching EOS. I really should.
Steem.io could really boost Steem. I haven't studied it either, but my very limited knowledge it allows anyone with some programming knowledge to launch a Smart Media Token (SMT). It is similar to how Ethereum employs smart contracts to host other tokens on the ETH blockchain. Many of the cryptocurrencies out there don't have their own blockchain and use Ethereum's blockchain either indefinitely or until they go live with their own blockchain. Tron is a perfect example. And don't forget CryptoKitties. I believe that the Steem.io SMTs are intended to launch projects that are social media related? I don't know if they would expand beyond that.

My very limited understanding of EOS is that it too will host coins utilizing smart contracts. There are others competitors like ICON and WanCoin

ive heard the same about EOS being fairly amazing. Id love for @ausbitbank to comment here as well as he has great insights to this stuff, sadly im a bit removed from this stuff and still learning and need to be educated etc. Whats Steem.io @socky lol. sorry perhaps im confused... I've heard of the SMT before but any idea how that ties in with the steemit site educate me please. would SMT be a part of steem? I am just curious if steemit or steem etc will still be around or if its dying because of all the new things developing

Lets say @theuxyeti and @socky collaborate on a project. We will call it the Worst Social Media Site Ever. I got the idea from Burning Man where there was a bar right next to me that had a sign "The Worst Bar Ever". It was a joke, but who wouldn't at least try the worst bar ever? Anyway, in our hypothetical media platform, we need a token to share. This token needs a blockchain. We need to use this token to keep track of who owes who on this new platform. Instead of creating our own blockchain, we create a contract with STEEM platform to host our token on their blockchain via SMT. Now we have our own SMT tokens and we move on to creating a community that will use them.

ah i get it. ok thanks :0
