My Steemit Goals For 2018

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

After nearly 6 months on this platform, I wanted to sit down and better define my goals here. I dedicate around 2 hours every day to creating and curating content, so it's time I get focused. I won't be powering down for the whole year, just to see where this platform goes, and my main goal is to hit 60 reputation by next year. Considering I've been at 57 for months, this seems rather ambitious.

It's time to make a plan.

My Community Schedule

I want to be a better Steemian! I’ve met so many incredible people on here that I have a hard time keeping up with everyone across all the communities I'm interested in (travelers, fiction writers, vloggers, etc) while also staying open to meeting new people. I sold off my SBDs with the high price and re-invested it into Steem, so now I have almost 1000 Steem Power. With voting power comes the responsibility to support great content!

Every Day:

  • Reward and interact with 10 posts from people I already follow
  • Reward and interact with 10 strangers (I’ll probably be relying on @steemitworldmap, @ocd, @curie, @sft, @msp-curation, @muxxybot and others to help me find them, feel free to suggest more in the comments)
  • Upvote and reply to meaningful comments on my own content
  • Promote my best finds elsewhere

Goals Throughout the Year:

  • Host a contest
  • Host or at least attend an in-person meetup

My Posting Schedule

This is a work in progress, but the idea is to get through my backlog while only posting around once per day. If I miss doing the daily videos, I may post more than once a day but I don't want to overwhelm my followers' feeds.

Monday:

The Roving Vlogger On the Road
What happened to the 55 daily videos I never posted on Steemit? Well, my family wanted me to "be present" while we were traveling together through Spain (how dare they?!) and I want to do these justice by incorporating detailed writing and my best photos. I will cherry-pick the best for you guys, and once I am through this will return to a Daily Edition.

Tuesday:

The Roving Vlogger Daily Edition
A simple video journal of my life from Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. I want to focus on fitness, achieving my goals, discussing the things I learn each day, and keeping things interesting with mini-adventures.

Wednesday:

“That Time I..."
My chance to record some of my favorite true and unusual stories, designed to be entertaining and educational. I only got a few episodes into this series: “That Time I Rode the Ferry Dressed as a French Maid” and “That Time I Spent a Week Swimming With Wild Dolphins”. They are VERY VERY time-consuming to write at the quality I want for them, especially considering my first one earned just over $1, but hopefully I will still be able to release one a week.

Thursday:

The Roving Vlogger Daily Edition
A video journal of my life filmed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Friday:

Adventure Reading
When I die, I mostly want to be known as “that girl who liked to read everywhere she went.” Here I will geek out about books and the places I read them at.

Saturday:

The Roving Vlogger Daily Edition
A video journal of my life filmed on Thursday and Friday.

Sunday:

Miscellaneous
Like this one today! Here I can post fiction, personal reflections, participate in or hold contests, or just take a day off!

So come by on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the high-effort posts, and the rest of the time for varied fun. (Not to say that editing and uploading videos every single day isn't high-effort, but they're not necessarily exciting.)

My Reasons Why

I think it's important to write down why you want to accomplish your goals when you set them! If I lose these and no new ones come about, then it's time to move on to a new goal.

  • Motivate myself and others to live a vibrant life.
  • Open myself up to different viewpoints and interact with people around the world.
  • Document my days to share with my family and look back on when I'm old and crotchety, while also becoming more comfortable with seeing and expressing myself.
  • Earn enough money to travel for at least 3 months out of the year and have some really cool adventures both near and afar (This is more of a mental trick to play on myself, since I won't be withdrawing my Steemit money this year. But if I earn $800 of unexpected cryptocurrency, then maybe I could talk myself into spending that much on learning wing walking, for example.)

Let me know if you have any feedback and what your own plans for Steemit 2018 are!

I'd love to recommend some curators for you to check out.. I curate creative writing for MSP and poetry for Muxxybot! Both excellent curation resources :)

Yes, of course! Thanks for the reminder, since I don't have those down in my list - I've added it above as well for anyone else stopping by.

I was really interesting to hear what your strategies were this year... definitely wasn't dissapointed! Love what you have here and I am seeing some similarity in the goals I have set for myself. Commenting is such a huge aspect of this platform and sometimes I get overwhelmed by it. I realized that I'm getting overwhelmed because I haven't really set my focus for HOW I will do that. In the end, it's really just impossible to respond to everything as much as I would love to do it. But I really like how you set 10 comments for people you know and 10 for newbies. My goal has been 15 comments a day so maybe I'll just up that to 20 and follow your approach.

I'm following you as I am interested to read and watch more of your content and also curious to see how you do it!

Thanks for sharing! I'd love to hear your thoughts about my recent post: These Three Words Will Instantly Change How You Perceive Your Life

There's so much content out there, it really is overwhelming! I could read and comment all day and still miss out on some overlooked jewels. Will have to refine my process as I go. 15 comments a day sounds great too - I went with 20 because I heard that's about how many upvotes you can do a day without depleting your power.

Thanks for following, your stuff looks really uplifting!

As a newcomer I really appreciate your goals and especially your intentional efforts to help those of us less known! I'm personally really excited to read your "That time I..." posts. Sounds really entertaining!

Thanks, I hope I can deliver! Will have to tell the story about the mountain goats sometime. :)

I do not yet have as detailed of a plan as you do... but it is coming together.

I think your goals make sense and are doable. They will take a lot of dedication and hard work, though.

I wish you the best!

Thank you! It's certainly not going to be easy, and I'm sure there will be a lot of days off because otherwise I get into a dangerous "streaking" mode where an upset like poor internet will throw me into a frenzy haha.

Ahhh! Thank you for sharing your plans. this really helps me right now because I am trying to get organized and become more structured about my engagement here. I have had a hard time keeping up with the people I follow, it is such a challenge because of how the feed works. Do you have any tips for making that easier?

Ugh, I could complain all day about how disorganized the feeds are. I have half a mind to write my own filtering app for it - maybe when I'm done with my current app project!

In the meantime, I just have a Google Doc with links to all my top favorite authors/curation pages on it so I can open up a ton of tabs and check in on specific people. Then I do a quick scroll through the latest posts on my feed to catch up with some others. But it's far from ideal.

I was thinking maybe something like that was a way but i wasnt sure if something existed on Steemit. I use Ginabot but if you use that to track a username it will pull all their mentions, etc, too. But a bot like that would be excellent, if you could plug a whole bunch of specific usernames into it and only get their posts. But yeah the feed to me is unfortunately not very useful. I will try the google doc way for now!

Although I haven't stated them any where here (yet) you have similar goals to me. Certainly putting out regular and interesting content will continue to make a difference. Getting the rep to move is a hard one. I've been at 66 for almost 12 months. Frustrating, lol. Its about 66.9 now, still waiting.

We share a similar interest in the fiction writing side of things, and having a regular writing schedule. I will look out for more of your material. All the best for the year ahead.

66.9 is crazy! Hopefully you hit that 67 soon, I can only imagine how big of a jump that is. Looking at successful people like yourself is a reminder that consistently high balance of quantity and quality pays off.

Great schedule. I would love to follow it as well. Stay blessed. I mostly comment and post content. Haven't focused on videos yet. So videos is a good idea.

I really like working with mixed media - I feel like a combination of writing, videos, and photography gives a little something for everyone. Definitely worth trying videos to see if it works for you!

thanks for sharing. i will now start doing my plan.

Thanks! Would love to hear about your plan and see it in action!

You have came up with a really good idea! Best of luck ! And reach 60 reputation level fast! All my best regards!

Thank you! Good luck on your Steemit journey as well!

Good idea to have Steemit goals too!

I think it's important to write down why you want to accomplish your goals when you set them!

I agree! I would probably set some posting schedule too. Thanks for the ideas!

You've been such a consistent author even while getting your startup going, it sets a great example!
