Can Steemit Become The New Facebook?

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

It would be nice to get some feedback on this and some how come to a concensus on the future of Steemit. Most of the people on Steemit already see the benefits of joining this network vs. Facebook but still there are a few issues needed to be addressed before this community can take on the big leagues.

Here's what I believe Steemit needs before mass adoption:

-1 Encrypted Direct Messaging Function
-2 Message all followers button (not available on fb)
-3 Status Update Option
-4 Simple Posts like Photo, video and .Gifs without the need of a lengthy blog.
-5 Ability to be "friends" or something more exclusive than just follow.
-6 Ability to create pages or groups.

That's about it for now. I believe these couple features being added can pave the way for mass adoption. Most people would dump facebook and migrate to Steemit once they knew they had almost all the same functionalities as the social network they came from but here they get paid.

It's certainly a brilliant idea to pay users to contribute, but what about the light users that tend not to create so much, but rather, share items and post simple material? Maybe I am just not understanding this community completely but still I can imagine they would want this site to be huge, so updates I would hope are welcome.

Hello there, i think steemit could definitly be better than facebook and it is up to us to make it happen. I like your idea on having more friends function as i find the followers are hard to manage when you have too many of them, and some you want to remove time from time. Having an exclusive list will save the time.

Hopefully, because it's still in Beta they may adopt some more of these features before full release.

hey man, you yes you! what is facebook? Steem on baby!

I believe a permissions model would solve all these problems listed. With the publically available api, a chat webclient would be no problem. A wall along with pages and groups (micro communities) would be able to exist in this same"shared with" model using another webclient.. etc..

HF20 post looks like its going to provide a means to roll pretty much all of this out

Some good points you've made there! :) I think some of these features might come to Steemit one day! :)

Also, would i be able to use your bottom banner?

I'm sure Steemit wouldn't mind some free advertising. Go for it.

I think that it is very unlikely if the only motivation to come was financial--that is, if it offered nothing more than other platforms than funds, since most users would not generate large amounts on the platform.

If you haven't noticed, jobs are disapearing, and unless you find a way to earn a living online you won't be flexible enough to thrive. Why can't the financial incentive be the reason they swap? If they can do everything they can on fb here, plus earn money, as nominal as it is, why wouldn't they? Not to mention the substancial benefit of being paid in cryptocurrency. Facebook is also known for censoring material and banning users. If this site wants to succeed massively it's going to need to go right where others went wrong. A void needs filling. People want a social network thats safe, uncensored, and that pays content creators. If it's not this one another will be made and take the market share instead.
