Yeah, this was a bad one, this is the problem with systems, even though programmers have the highest care coding and putting it all working, a single thing wrong can brake the whole thing off... From what I got what basically happened is that a bug in the code made it so an upvote would give someone 2 Trillion STEEM, the blockchain went down because the number was to big and witnesses had to fix it and replay the whole thing, and steemit inc took a little longer because they have more things to put back online... thank god it went down, if we had a guy with 2 trillion steem we would probably have to fork the chain having a steem and steem classic and it would really suck in general.
Tell your friends this isn't a normal thing, and even when it happens, no one loses anything, it just takes time for witnesses to put it all back in order and to make it work, we have good witnesses :)

Yeah I heard the story. That’s crazy and good thing it halted. I’m just more irritated at my terrible timing for these situations. Although I do feel better communication would go a long way.

I kinda agree with this,Steemit should put a huge non-blockchain post up when the blockchain goes down, some kind of warning, something like that, however, the communication is there for anyone that is really concerned, Telegram, Discord, steem.chat...
Yup. I think the main thing is that there are still lots of casual users here that aren’t on those other platforms. Should they be? Perhaps but there are lots of just regular users that are t as plugged in as some are. They are the ones completely left in the dark. Ya know?
Whatever. They kicked ass at getting it all back up and running. If I remember correctly...wasn’t the last outage after the last fork a bit longer?
