My Experience on Voting Bots

in #steemit7 years ago

Recently, I've been fascinated by voting bots and I want to share my recent experiences with them.

For those unfamiliar to the concept, voting bots provide services to upvote your post when you send them a bid. A bid can be as little as 0.01 SBD and can be as much as 10 SBD or more. The catch is that everyone can send a bid. Once the bot reaches 100% voting power, it will upvote the posts of all bids received. Naturally, the one who bids 10 SBD will get a greater upvote than the one who bids 0.01 SBD.

Here's a sample result on bids I've done for one of my recent posts:

Voting BotBid SentAdjusted ReturnsROI
minnowfairy0.1000.1021.7%
steembidbot0.1000.12625.7%
boomerang3.0002.919-2.7%
buildawhale3.0004.08536.2%
TOTAL6.2007.23216.7%

This means, for this particular post, I sent a total bid of 6.200 SBD and after all the conversions and deductions, the total amount of upvotes that voting bots gave me came to 7.232 SBD. A handsome returns of 16.7%.

That said, lest you be lulled into a false sense of security, not all bids will have such great returns. I was a bit lucky most of my bids gave me a higher return. However, I have also seen instances where the ROI
went all the way down to -50%!

So be very careful. Ultimately, my advise on this matter is: if you want to use voting bots, go for it. However, make sure you know first what you are doing. There's a very neat site, Steem Bot Tracker that collates all voting bots in one place and gives you a lot of helpful information before you make a bid. Familiarize all the info first before going in to make a bid.

Good luck! :)

Yep, I think folks don't quite understand how to calculate the adjusted returns which ends up with a lot of people overbidding on bots. Would love to see a blog post on how to calculate adjusted return - I've been thinking about doing it myself - since I think it could go a long way towards ensuring everyone bids more smartly and we can all benefit!

Hey @bigtx31, great to hear from you. Sure, let me work on the computation for my next post.

You are lucky man pospromoter was almost empty :) $53 vote for 4SBD nice work :D

Thanks @petrvl. Just got lucky on this round, as I think Steemit went down for awhile.
