Censorship is increasingly becoming a problem in this new age of Technology with massive corporations like Facebook and Google controlling what the mainstream sees and hears in a totalitarian manner.

In a recent article written by Frisco d'Anconia and published with Cointelegraph, many interesting points were brought up about ways that blockchain can counteract censorship as we move towards a new and refreshing Web 3.0 model.

According to Frisco's article, traditionally, the Internet has acted as a safe haven for those seeking information and others who seek to expose it.

However, he also argues that because of its centralized and increasingly global structure, it has become the perfect vehicle for surveillance and censorship. Massive companies that handle data and online media are allowing information to be edited and even removed at will.

Fortunately the answer is simple, decentralize the web and unleash free speech on the masses.

Blockchain technology can be seen as the tool the Internet was intended to become. Decentralized Blockchain networks grant authority to none, regardless of their wealth or social status. Instead, authority is distributed proportionally throughout participants, creating a balance of opinions and views.

Furthermore there are a few platforms already in the process of accomplishing this goal.

Steemit, for example, has been able to create and maintain a network in which writers are completely free to write about what they want with no form of centralized censorship applied. Not only is Steemit a platform where writers are free to express themselves, but it is also a place where they can be rewarded for their work, depending solely on how well their content is received by the community.

In Web 3.0 the masses will be able to publish their content online without fear of complete and total censorship because the masses will be in control of the information rather than a biased 3rd party simply intent on pushing their own agenda. Freedom of speech is essential for the continued support of a free and progressive civilization.
