A note to Sam Harris

in #steemit7 years ago

I am not a fanboy of pretty much anything though, something I do listen to consistently is the podcast of Sam Harris. After a few deep conversations, it was recommended to me by a friend who realised that Sam crosses much of the same territory as my own interest areas and since I don't read much, watch TV, game or consume mainstream media, Sam's podcast is my source of entertainment.

He is a thoughtful, intelligent, very well spoken person who has published NY Times best sellers and talked with many of the most influential people in their fields. He is a brilliant and even-tempered speaker and a gracious host to his guests. Sam Harris also has a degree in philosophy from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from UCLA.

Why am I telling you this?

He has one of the most listened to podcasts in the world with a massive following and at times runs into some topics of controversy as well as speaks with controversial identities across several domains.

He is an enthusiastic advocate of freedom of speech and is outspoken against censorship of various kinds. He doesn't have advertisers as funding due to their ability to compromise content and relies on subscriptions to fund his work. He is a liberal thinker and is concerned about the future of artificial intelligence and its impact on humanity, fake news and the role of governments in our lives. He has also expressed concerns about the ability for the large platforms to demonetize content providers that are too controversial or bad for business.

Sounds perfect for Steemit don't you think?

So I sent this note through his new website samharris.org

Now, is he likely to respond? I don't know but perhaps one of his support staff may have a look at what Steemit is about and what it could potentially provide Sam in the future. It could be that he will have a closer look at how blockchain technology can support some of his pet projects and cobat some of his concerns, especially in regards to freedom of speech, censorship and immutability of content. Let's see if anything comes of it.

A Secondary note:

Sam,

I have parked the account @samharris. If you join at Steemit, the account is of course yours and I will hand over the keys happily and delegate something to you to get you started and acquainted with the platform.

As Steemit and blockchain technologies mature, you will find that there is a lot that they will be able to offer you and your peers to support and manage a whole range of activities you are interested in.

Hopefully, you find your way here and help us develop and shape what information, economy, community and individual potential will look like in the future.

Remember though, once on the blockchain it is immutable, so choose your first words wisely as they will be remembered forever.

It’s awesome that you got Sam an account :)
I am planning the check out his podcast I have never heard about before.

They are very interesting and cover a lot of different topics and highly recommend for the thoughtful :)

Getting the account is the least I can do, for him and if he does happen to step onto the Steem blockchain, he would be a great ambassador for the platform.

I am already very curious After finally reading all the way through.
We need many more ambassadors for our community.

Have you listened Rahapodi podcasts? If you are interested in investing and/or economy I can highly recommend it. 👍🏻 Is was selected the best podcast in Finland in 2017.

is it in Finnish? ;)

Yep, it is in Finnish but easy to follow. They have also (at least) one podcast covering the crypto currencies. 👌🏽

It is Nordnet bank’s own podcast starring by Martin Paasi (ah, I admire him!😍✨) and Miikka Luukkonen. Martin was closely engaged in creation of Finnish the Exchange Trade Fund (ETF) as CEO of Seligson&Co funding company. He has also interesting thoughts on today’s economy. 🤔

Below you can listen the newest podcast, if you have time and/or interest:

I could be wrong here but to me right now at least its the type I wouldn't want here. I highly doubt he is going to read other peoples stuff and worry about "giving back" or that type of thing. Sure he may bring some eyeballs etc but then I'm also not a fan of the typical political themed content that tends to dominate pretty much all platforms these days.

Could be wrong, but again just not the type I care if they come over at this point if ever.

What I would be interested in seeing is if his follower base would be willing to make some investigations into Steem as they are more the type who would think about the platform and are likely already used to the concept as they support through Patreon, Paypal and his website.

That actually makes more sense.

It will be great and very useful for our community if he agrees to join us...
You did a great job to make this community contain people who offer great ideas here...
thank you @tarazkp

Well this is really good and i truly hopes he joins because I'm also a big fan of Sam Haris and i cant wait to have him on steemit. @tarazkp its really nice of you to look out for him.
Glad am learning something aterall

I have been listening to Sam's podcast for a long time and am also a big fan of his. I really hope he reads your message and gives it some consideration. It would be fantastic to have him on here. Thanks Taraz =)

Actually, I wonder if sending him a message myself would make any difference. Surely the more noise we make the more likely he is to hear us?

Now that's what I am talking about...A steemit and crypto enthusiast like you is what we need. Promoting steem in grand Style . I am very impressed with this move of yours and I hope he does respond to them email and also consider using steemit as his Play ground

Do well to keep us updated please. :-)

What a great idea! I listen to his podcast daily. It would be great to have him on Steemit!!!

I haven't heard Sam's podcasts but I'm sure they are very good and well done for parking his account ready for his arrival. As I'm sure he will get sick and tired of the other 'social' platforms out there as they struggle to put the genie back in the bottle. Too late!
I'll check out his podcasts too. Thanks for sharing.

I listen to his podcast all the time too. I have to wonder though if Steemit is truly ready for free speech. I can foresee a believer, non-believer flag war starting given the right circumstances and the right whale. #whaleproblem

My dream podcast for his introduction to Steemit would be an interview with Elon Musk where they discuss the future of AI and the integration of neural network computing with blockchain technology and where that could lead. Posted on dtube of course.

That would be cool.
