Ever since India and Pakistan played their first-ever Test in 1952-53, the rivalry between the two countries has evoked passion and frenzied excitement among fans. When either side win or lose, it has resulted in mixed emotions - fans of one country rejoice while at the other side of the border, they're drenched in despair.

The storied rivalry between the two sides also extends to the Under 19 ranks, with some riveting matches played between the two countries in the Under 19 World Cup. In the 2004 edition of the tournament, Pakistan defended a total of 230 and in 2006, they went one better by overcoming their neighbours despite being bowled out for just 107. Anwar Ali starred with a five-fer. The two sides will again go head-to-head in the semifinals of the 2018 edition in Hagley Oval, Christchurch. However, this time around, a well balanced India Under 19 side will start the match as favourites.

For India, Prithvi Shaw (191), the captain, and Shubman Gill (239) have racked up the runs. Manjot Kalra, who compiled a fluent 86 versus Australia Under 19, Abhishek Sharma and Harvik Desai have all made useful contributions. However, it is their bowling which has given them the edge over most other sides going around in the competition.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti (7 wickets), who has bowled at speeds touching 150 kph, has made the cricketing landscape sit up and take notice of his slippery pace. The promising pacer picked up a three-wicket haul in the quarterfinal against Bangladesh as well as a three-fer versus Australia Under 19 in the group phase. Shivam Mavi (8 scalps) has also bowled with a fair amount of fire and aggression.

Meanwhile, Abhishek and Ankul Roy have befuddled opposition ranks with their flight and guile. On the downside, the Indian Under-19 set-up hasn't been put under any real pressure through the course of the tournament. It would be interesting to see how they will perform in a big match against Pakistan Under 19. Even in their quarterfinal versus Bangladesh Under 19, they breezed to a comfortable 131-run win.

Their opponents, Pakistan, have mostly struggled with the bat. Only Ali Zaryab Asif and Rohail Nazir have notched up fifty plus scores. It was Zaryab's vital hand of 74 that helped them beat South Africa Under 19 in the quarterfinals. Even in the Under 19 Asia Cup last year, they struggled with the bat, evidenced by the fact that Pakistan's batsmen could manage just one fifty plus score combined.

Pakistan's bowlers, though, have put up good performances. Shaheen Afridi, the 6'5" left-arm fast bowler, labelled as 'Pakistan's Mitchell Starc', can bowl searing yorkers and extract bounce. He picked up a six-fer in the game against Ireland Under 19. The tall pacer also bagged a eight-fer on his first-class debut for Khan Research Labs last year. Muhammad Musa, who took a three-wicket haul in the quarterfinal, and Hasan Khan, the captain, are the other key performers for the side. Pakistan's chances of reaching the final could rest on the shoulders of their varied bowling line-up.
