Yeah an email system would work on Steem or you can create another graphene blockchain. I was actually thinking of approaching Dan about this a couple months ago and recently someone brought the same idea up at a meetup. I agree it's old tech, but one of the most useful to upgrade. You get encryption and spam protection and that's a huge improvement from what we have now.
