Hello steemians! It is a beautiful Sunday today and also exactly 15 days since I made my introductory post on steemit. Thanks to friends and colleagues @khojo and @kwesi for introducing this wonderful platform to me. Ever since my account got confirmed however, I have noticed that steemit is not what I thought it to be. I imagined it a treasure island where the most intelligent make fortunes. Make no mistake however, those who make thousands every day deserve it.
For lack of knowledge, my people perish
There are certain misconceptions newbies like me have when we join Steemit and after spending two weeks here without much luck, I took time to study the platform carefully and came up with 3 basic facts about Steemit that could prove really useful.

It's a social media platform

Immediately your web browser loads up the Steemit page, there are certain features that immediately catch our eye. It shares a close resemblance with our regular social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Not only visually but also in function. It connects people all over the world and provides the means through which ideas, experiences and important moments are shared. The only difference may be the current reward status of the post in Dollars( which is why we love Steemit), located on the bottom left. There's the common "like" button, which translates as "upvote" on steemit and the comment button. In short, Steemit is a normal social media platform like it's peers.

It's not about who's the best

Well, Steemit rewards users for creating good content and sharing it on the platform. But this does not mean it's a competition where the best writer comes first. Rewards are based on the number and weight of upvotes you get. Meaning, rewards are awarded by members and not any independent awarding body on the platform. It's all about your reputation and Steem power. It's like expecting your photo on Instagram to fetch more likes than Selena Gomez's post, regardless of the next generation camera you shot your photo with. Unless of course you're more popular than she is😃. I know you get my point now..lol

It takes time and dedication to get there

All those with booming rewards on their posts that you wish were yours have spent a lot of time to get to their current position and are dedicated to their art. Rome was not built in a day and so it's hard to build a fortune in weeks or days( not saying it's impossibe) because Steemit is not a cassino. So, to be very successful on Steemit, consistency, dedication and patience will surely take you there. Good content always counts. Write on your area of proficiency and don't try to write about what you have little knowledge about. You'll end up producing shit posts.

So that's basically it...

They're lots and lots of ways to make it on Steemit. These are just 3 points of the many. I'm sure you'll find more tips elsewhere. But, to enjoy the fruits of steeming, you need to accept that it's a social media platform and how you relate to people will attract them to you and get them to read and upvote your posts. It is going to take time and dedication as well to make a fortune on Steemit. Your "high grade" posts will fetch you cents if you don't connect with others and build a strong following. Entertain your readers, create good content and interact with other steemians. That's the way forward. After all...Steemit is a fun and rewarding community. Hope you found this post helpful.
