３０年前の１９８９年７月２２日、東京都新宿区の厚生省（当時）戸山研究庁舎建設現場で多数の人骨が見つかった。細菌戦を研究した旧陸軍の７３１部隊と関係が深い防疫研究室があった場所だが、関連は不明なままだ。真相解明を求める市民団体は発見３０年に合わせ、展示会や関係施設跡をめぐるフィールドワークを開く。

区が鑑定を頼んだ専門家は１００体以上のアジア人の骨と推定。数十年～１００年、土の中にあったと判断した。大人の男性が多く、生前に刺したり切ったりされた跡や、死後に銃弾を受けたと考えられる骨もあったという。

厚生労働省は防疫研究室が属した陸軍軍医学校の関係者らに問い合わせたが、人骨の由来は分からず、発見場所近くに設けた納骨施設に安置している。

発見現場となった一帯には、終戦まで軍医学校があった。７３１部隊は戦時中、生物・化学兵器開発のため中国人らに人体実験をしたとされる。

　発見当時区議だった川村一之さん（６７）は、７３１部隊の実験材料にされた人の遺骨が含まれている可能性があると考え、区や国に遺骨の保存と詳しい調査を働きかけてきた。研究者や教員らと作った「軍医学校跡地で発見された人骨問題を究明する会」の代表を務め、調査を続けている。

「究明する会」は、発見から３０年になるのに合わせて、１９～２１日、現場近くの全国障害者総合福祉センター戸山サンライズで記念行事「人骨は訴える」を催す。解説パネルや関連資料など約５０点を展示し、２１日午後２時から川村さんが３０年かけて調べてきたことを講演する。「遺骨の身元確認につながる動きを作り出したい」という。
