Why ABANDON Curation Rewards - Reasons and Consequences
Abandon Curation Rewards and get an influx of fresh blood, reduce Steem inflation and make the upvoting process more dependent on the quality of the content.
Getting money for blogging and upvoting - a dream that has become reality thanks to Steemit. Though since the system was launched a great deal of things has changed - and so has the attitude of the users. Voting for the content has become a thing of the past and the decisive factors in the upvoting process now are:
- the current payout;
- the current number of voters;
- the rating of the authour.
Notably, the factors that influence the final curation reward of the author - and nothing more.
As a result, most of the newcomers with the rating of 25 and no followers leave the system after a couple of posts as they don't bring them anything but disppointment. Even if the content is extremely good - it is unlikely to be noticed at all as the voters don't even open the articles when upvoting. The only ones to vote for the content - not for the rating or the current payout - are whales who are few. So the whole process is now aimed at catching a whale which is the only way to earn for a newcomer. Unfortunately.
In the very beginning the opinion of the voters did make sense still now the users' preferences moved from the quality of the upvoted content to the possible rewards for the curation.
For those who need money and consider the platform a sourse of possible income curation rewards are the only way out - they follow and upvote the most popular steemers, get steem power and power down to get money. As a result, the STEEM supply on the market grows and the price falls. As simple as that.
So, the system of curation rewards demands some changes - and the abandonment of this type of rewards can renew and freshen the platform and make STEEM currency more stable.
Let the authors be upvoted for their content - not for their being followed by wang or enjoying the safe support of other users.

When I'm on steemit (once a day?) I try to always upvote newcomers if I like their posts. I just want this to be a successful platform.

I have read and done upvote non_automatically. Totally agree with the author - alas, the system is far from perfect. While the young net have to adjust to the market needs and users.

I agree with you. Sometimes I confuse about curation reward. I wonder why bad article have good value in author reward, so this cause many whale only focus on curation reward and they do not care about content of article. They are only depending on SP which give a huge influence for their income . anyway you give a good opinion about curation reward. :)
I think we should reward reading and make voting voluntary. Give a reward at the bottom of a post after reading it
Well, but how can we determine whether the person read the post or simply upvoted it "automatically"?

I don't think abandoning curation rewards would be a good idea. If you think the STEEM dump happening now is bad, what incentive would a whale have to hold if they have no curation rewards?
I wrote a blog about how the current data shows we have hit a point where the new user registrations are below the users abandoning accounts and voting with their feet (churn). I think the idea of authors and curators is great, but the system needs to be changed to give the perception that a fair shot exists for all authors to be discovered.
Another good article ! yes I +1 BECAUSE it IS of VALUE TO ME !!! that is the only reason I vote on anything. I came here to learn and be a part of something I don't think a lot of people quite understand. (IMHO) When the importance of the blockchain is realized and utilized to its potential steemit will explode in value. I am not a writer, I am a learner and student of life. I believe the value of steemit is so under appreciated right now...
Actually I made my 1st Post today and am trying to share what I believe to have value, NOT to make money.
