Why current Steemians are more "aware" than the rest of the population.

Since I have come to this website one thing has become obvious, the people that are attracted to steemit are all very different, and yet they are also similar, they are together on this site, creating vastly different segments and interacting within their own little niches in their own ways but all through this one medium. How does one place attract artists, investors, hippies, journalists, and farmers at the same time? They all want to participate in a social media platform that benefits themselves as well as others and not just large advertising companies or places like facebook. When you create for steem you create for everyone, we all benefit from having great authors who create amazing posts.

So what is it about this medium and the people in it that is so special? It is clear that the average user here has more awareness of the world as a whole. It seems much more like a community here than the cliques of Facebook or the popularity contest of twitter which never has any content. And then there is our content: since we have incentive to write and create, the quality of our community is much higher, because we are impacted personally by other people and even by what we upvote, we are more conscious and courteous to each other.

I just wanted to write this post as a show of appreciation to the steemit community. I have only been here for a few months but I know that I will be writing and interacting with steemit daily from the few great interactions I have already had. I have so much hope for this company and for where it can go. This website has the potential to help thousands of impoverished people in 3rd world countries. This could and I believe should be used to reinvigorate investigative journalism again. We can use this platform to change the world. And we have the best community in the world to do it because I really get the sense that we are all genuinely passionate and sincerely care.
