Are you spending time supporting Steemit?
Do you spend any time checking out new content on Steemit?
We are almost at 75k users on Steemit!
That means that there is a lot of new content coming to Steemit.. And I think that right now there is not enough newcomers getting support on their great content, because it seems like everyone is focused more on upvoting just whales, and even trying to earn money by curating.
Curating as a minnow
Now I have tried earning by curating, and I've noticed that even getting like 75% weight after the 30 minutes on a post still doesn't seem to earn anything. (I think I earn from 0.001-0.01 on each post on average and I have had 90% VP and my SP is 800)
So saving your Voting Power is not helping you at all.. It's probably actually hurting you, because if your saving your VP for the whales posts then your missing out from meeting NEW people and potentially NEW whales that will appreciate you being one of the first to support them.
Rewarding GREAT content coming to Steemit
I have seen so much great content payout $0.01 and even $0.00 and I can't believe it.
Now Steemit's big thing is "Post - Vote - Earn" but if these 50k people that joined this month are posting GOLD worthy posts and nobody is supporting it they will probably take that content elsewhere.
So if we are focused on the future of Steemit, and becoming a site where you can post for free, and vote for free, and EARN for free then we should take this into consideration, and try to be supportive of the newbies.

Great point. I think rewarding new people posting good content to steemit is important and was a big part of the initial success (with introduceyourself posts).
I have around 40 people i follow that I tend to upvote their content - [Not all their posts all the time.]
Then I browse content on 'new/created'. I think it's a good balance, That way i don't miss content from people who i'm interested in following, but can also reward a few newer people. Not that i can really add much to their reward though.
That's awesome!
Glad to see people like you on here :D
You are so right... the main thing is that everyone focuses on being the next trending post and does not care about others. That leads us to a situation where everyone is focused on posting and good content, quality content is produced... but not rewarded...
Every day it is good to browse the new posts which is what I do. I rarely look at trending
I agree, I have seen quality content get nothing . I'm curious did you convert your dollars into steem?
I convert to SP
Thanks.
I started the same way, but I can say now I almost exclusively look at "new" posts or tags that I like. There is a lot of content that deserves more upvotes, I think we are too much focused on the money. Money is great, but we should be here also for the content.
People care too much for themselves and not enough for the whole vision and community, which is why the price is tanking. I hope that those who are only financialy involved in this won't destroy the whole project.
Even if the price of STEEM goes to .01 it is still worth more than Reddit karma ;D
Go tell this to people who bought at 3$/steem :)
I'm one of those people.. but that would be like buying bitcoin at $3 when it first came out ;D
I agree
