Does New Steemit Logo Pass Universality Test?

FOR CRITICAL CORRECTION, PLEASE READ @bescouted 's REPLY IN THE COMMENTS SECTION.

For most companies, word-of-mouth is tied with, and maybe even trumped by its logo that is easily recognizable, anywhere and by anyone.

Of the many things that I found attractive about Steemit, was the beautiful blue hues in the original logo, and how fellow Steemians were able to get very creative with it, thus enhancing the brand name, and using this visual as powerful advertising.

People had invested thousands in this logo, via t-shirts and mugs, etc. And, then one day without asking input, a huge change was made by developers, leaving these investors in the hole for a whole lot of product that was no longer ‘relevant’.

The new logo has created a divide in the community. And, we all know what happens to a house divided. It seems people are quietly pushing back by continuing to use the ‘old’ logo.

Personally, I had considered buying decals to apply to a few items. But, until we can get a solid logo, it’s not worth even a few pennies to make the purchase of stickers.

Some ingenious Steemians are starting challenges to create a new logo.

However, with all due respect, the new logo has been created.

To my dismay, it didn’t include the community. I agree that it should have been a big contest with $1K SP issued to the winner. Of course, this promotes for shady dealings; so, let’s go back to contributing towards the cause, and the community just voting for one of the three final choices.

But, it didn’t happen that way. We have the odd green logo I describe as the bubble with a toupee. I guess in some parts of the world, the waters are turquoise, so I’ll give it that much.

But, most whales swim in deep, dark-blue waters, as found in the original background of most of the user blogs.

Lastly, I want to offer my apology to the creator of this new logo. He seems like a really nice guy, and put a lot of thought into the design. For him, it is a piece of art. And, as all artists, what we create becomes an extension of self. For this reason I apologize; because, I have relished in the humor the logo has inspired in some, and the rants that others have voiced.

It’s not personal. It’s change. It’s unwanted change for most of us. Most are longing for the new to become the old again.

Will that happen? I don’t know.

The whole color combination just seems too starkly opposing; but, I’m reminded of another post I wrote recently, entitled Get the Feeling, No One is Listening?

I will include the link below, along with the post that inspired this writing.

And, with due respect to the creator of the new logo, here’s a link detailing the inspiration behind his design:

Now, if you've read this far, please consider an up-vote, comment or resteem. As always, thank you!

You should read more on the matter. The "old" logo as you call it is a logo for Steem blockchain. It is CC and everybody can use it in any way they want as blockchain is a common decentralised product. The "new" logo is a property of Steemit Inc the owner of steemit.com which is just a front end application on Steem blockchain.

Steem does not equal steemit.com and they are in a way separate entities.

P.S. I do not like the color of the whole theme too. neither for aesthetic reasons not for the UX purpose as it has reduced readability and visibility. But that is a matter of a private owned company so they do not need to ask a permission to carry out such changes but to live up with the consequences.

OMgoodness! Dagnabit, I thought that was Steemit’s insignia. I know people were warning to use the new logo carefully; because, of copyright infringements.

"new" logo is a property of Steemit Inc...private owned company

Another dagnabit…So, are you saying Steemit Inc is not decentralized? And, that any day it could go the way of Google, YouTube, etc?

do not need to ask a permission to carry out such changes but to live up with the consequences.

You’re right about the consequences.

Thank you so much for this enlightenment! This explains a MULTITUDE of questions, starting with why community-input wasn’t sought on this major face change.

So, are you saying, until recently Steemit didn’t have its own logo; and they were just riding under that beautiful Steem logo?

If so, got it! I, and I think many in the community, have just learned something new!

Many, many thanks for this clarification. It explains much.

Peace.
