RE: Help! I am one of the 206 people with negative reputation (-6). Please Help!

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

I actually disagree with abit on whether the post is reward-worthy. The reason being it points to a very serious problem with the rep system. Downvotes from high SP users, including casual ones over mildly inappropriate content or even misclicks or "drunk downvotes" can cause very serious damage to reputation.

Further I disagree with having initialized the rep scores based on old downvotes that were never intended to have that effect at the time they were made (since the effect did not exist).

Looking at alphabeta's past posts, he's someone who has been active in the community, involved with mining, but is not a star blogger or whale who can easily accumulate a lot of positive rep points allowing him to withstand even a single whale (or semi-whale, maybe even less) downvote. Having both the possibility and the reality of such severe and long-term damage to any user's Steem experience due to one single click from anyone is not a favorable path forward. Even that one single person happens to be the lead developer and founder. Perhaps especially then.

Thank you for pointing this out alphabeta. I gave you an upvote and restored your rep.

yeah look who placed the only flag on that post,
me :)
I should make a post about it

Thank you very much @smooth. I couldn't agree more with you. You got my Witness Vote.
And thank you all who voted for me.

Yes, I fully agree. I've been crying everywhere that everyone should have started with a reputation of 0 and go from there. Maybe have the rep system separated from steem power - every steemian has the same rep power that will move your level a very tiny bit ? That would mean you would have to get flagged by lets say 50 people to get into - rep and upvoted by a lot if you wanted + rep.

The issue is without considering SP it is too easy for abusers to sign up a bunch of free accounts and wreak havoc. Overall this is a very hard problem, but I'm glad we were able to resolve things here.

I like the advantages. It seems like more users benefit from it than don't. It just stinks for the unhappy few that don't haha.

Well then maybe have some kind of a minimal SP treshold that is attainable by normal people in a few weeks of steeming.

I would suggest to distribute some part of the daily distribution to all fully verified accounts
as #basicincome or #universaldividend.

This steady income could encourage participation from newcomers.

Managing the list of fully verified account can function like this:
Similar like the witnesses vote now for the blockchain, they or a separate list of witnesses vote for a list of fully verified accounts. The verification itself could be done through local meetups and or video chat.

this needs discussing!!

@smooth, Can you help more??

Further I disagree with having initialized the rep scores based on old downvotes that were never intended to have that effect at the time they were made (since the effect did not exist).

Yes! I wish the devs would listen to you about this.
