7 days of weird borders by @sljivanono #1
The state border is a conceived line that borders the state of a state. Almost all of these have been established through interstate agreements, and some have been determined by the court. They are marked with stones and pillars, and recently in traffic signs.
As a boundary, it is often the chain of the highest mountain peaks, the development of two rivers, the geometric middle of the river (mostly sailing), its deepest flow or nut.
I will start a series with the state border of Gambia and Senegal, one of the most interesting state borders.
SENEGAMBIA BORDER
The border issues between Senegal and Gambia are in the 16th century, during colonization (English and French).
As colonialism became more lucrative, England and France took greater measures to define their spheres of influence in West Africa.
The Treaty of Versailles (1783) created a balance between France and Great Britain; Saint Louis, the Île de Gorée and the Senegal River region were restored to France, and the Gambia was left to the British.
This decision brought about the future of Senegal (which gained its independence in 1960) and The Gambia (independent in 1965) sharing a large problem: how to successfully maintain two separate countries in a region with shared yet different cultural values, and one nation virtually surrounded by another.
Gambia retreats like a kind of semi-enclave in the interior of the Senegalese state territory and thus separates the southern and northern parts of Senegal.
Very nice article you have there! But do not forget to cite your sources and credit your images when necessary
