On October 7th at 7pm local India time (6:30 am Pacific Standard Time), a talkfest event titled “Generally Speaking” was held at the Hunter Valley Restaurant in Gurgaon, India. The event topic was “The Chinese Border Issue.” Speaking at this event was General (ret.) GD Bakshi, PhD, Col. (ret.) RSN Singh, General (ret.) Ravi Arora and Joe Skorpen, writer/producer/director of the upcoming Hollywood motion picture “Hindustan.” The event was hosted by renowned speaker and author Ms. Rakhi Softa Sharma.

The discussion contrasted and compared similarities between what is currently happening in the Chinese border and the similar conditions that led to the 1962 Sino-Indian War; a story told in the upcoming Hollywood motion picture “Hindustan.”

The capacity crowd along with over a hundred more watching on FaceBook Live, were treated to an hour and a half discussion by well-known experts seldom assembled on a single stage. The open microphone Q&A portion of the evening was informative and enlightening, and we thank those audience members who actively participated in the talks.

The discussion that took place was an honest, scholarly debate that defined the understanding and positions of both India and China, and then delved into the disagreements between the two countries that are resulting in the recurrence of tensions, as they did back in 1962. The event was so well-received that future “Generally Speaking” talkfests are already being planned.

The objective of the talks was to bring the opinion of experts directly to the people, as well as highlight a potentially serious matter between India and China, having potentially global ramifications, to the attention of the western audience where the mainstream news hardly mentions this serious issue.

The motion picture “Hindustan” that is currently in development has become a catalyst for bringing attention to this serious matter regarding the Chinese border. Having no idea when this screenplay was written three years ago that it would suddenly regain real-time relevance, the project has become a platform for spreading social awareness to what has the potential to become a war between two nuclear superpowers.

The objective of the “Hindustan” movie project was simply to tell an incredible, yet relatively obscure story, through the POV of an amazing 22 year-old Indian war hero who held-off 1000 Chinese troops, high in the Himalayan Mountains for three days, saving his last bullet for himself. Nobody involved in this project ever imagined that it would suddenly become relevant to current events, yet here we are.

All of the “Hindustan” project managers consider themselves to be purely entertainers and the last thing we would ever produce is a “preachy” movie, but with the 1962 Sino-Indian War, which killed thousands and wounded thousands more, yet resulted in no treaties or border changes, we are proud that our project has become a vehicle responsible for sparking discussion. Although admittedly a slice of pie-in-the-sky, we can at least imagine that the increased awareness to the issue might perhaps turn a tide and save lives – on BOTH sides of the border.

With future “Generally Speaking” events are now in the works, and if you find yourself in or around New Delhi, India, you are cordially invited to join us. Our global audience can also join future events via livestream. Announcements will be made on the website that is currently being built in anticipation of the future events. Once online, the information can be found at www.genrallyspeakingtalks.com

Everyone involved with this wonderfully successful evening wishes to thank Sam Narayan, PhD, for envisioning, planning and organizing this event. From concept to delivery, he accomplished this amazing feat in less than one month. Miracles are his specialty.
