The Solution to Steemit's Curation Problem...US!steemCreated with Sketch.

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I saw a post in Steemit mentioning the need for changing the algorithms of curation rewards because botnets are liking posts and you can see that trending posts have more upvotes than views. This is an astute observation and though it's possible that tweaking the curation algorithms could maybe do some good... we already have a solution! I thank the community member for pointing out some of these issues with the curation designations. Each of us have a simple means to make Steemit better:

The Community Was Given The Ability To Downvote Using Our Human-Spider Senses! #SpidermanReference

We can simply combat the quantity over quality idea using our:
Downvotes.
By spreading this awareness we can downvote articles that are getting bot upvoted etc. A downvote doesn't necessarily mean you don't like the article, it just means you want to affect a redistribution of the rewards.

Downvote articles that are botvoted.

We, as a community need to discern for ourselves who gets rewards and downvote those articles that are taking advantage of the system.
One thing to look at is the number of upvotes vs the number of views (eyeball symbol). This will help. Maybe someone will make a botnet of downvoting too though I am not sure if that will get used for malign efforts, too. (duhn duhn duhn -"bad event" sound)
What do you think?
Thanks for reading!!

There needs to be monetary incentive in the protocol otherwise people just won't do it. A few people trying to do good isn't going to work, we need EVERYONE to do it, ALL THE TIME.

We could hopefully get that kind of culture established (optimal/ideal) or maybe get a designated group, too.
