Confused? Why is Our Blog Earnings Constantly Dropping Still When Steem is Up? Ticker System Not Catching Up? (EDIT: GOT AN ANSWER SO UPDATED...TURNS OUT ALL IS WELL IN YOUR POTENTIAL PAYOUTS)

This is an observation, unsure if its my account or all around happening with everyone's accounts

Before I get into my serious article writing today, and trust me the news has a lot to write about so I better get busy lol. But as a quick question to the community. Are you guys noticing the potential payouts on your blogs still dropping dramatically? I been price checking and since I woke up this morning the price spiked up quite decently on Steem but my account on average has been dropping dollars at a time, every hour on the hour but no votes have been taken away.

It this something to do with HF19 or is the ticker system just very slow to update? Just wanted to ask, either way it is what it is but making sure I don't have some weird issue I may need to tend to or get in touch with someone about. I have noticed anything about $100 potential payouts are dropping more dramatically, I had one that was $150 this morning and now reaching close to $120 in the matter of an hour, votes are still the same so its kind of caught my attention.

If your seeing this let me know I am not crazy lol. Just hate to see in a weeks time everyone drops to zero lol, but I don't think that will be the case

EDIT: GOT THE ANSWER I NEEDED ON THIS, NO NEED TO WORRY...HERE IS WHY THE PAYOUTS ARE DOING THAT

I am glad I posted this, got a few great answers on why our payouts are dropping. They potential payout system is on a rolling scale percentage system. So basically due to the prices being down the last few days its average is less so therefore your potential payouts are less. Once we keep a higher average for a little while your payout potentials will rise back up. Now here is an observation to add to that answer, you should get more volume in coin when your potential payouts are lower...this is just how it is in crypto so you probably will take your payout on the low side and sell for current market price and end up with more Bitcoin than your potential payout shows. This is actually a good thing, so no need to worry, it will average out in the end for you. Just had to ask, was worrying a few of my friends and myself but makes sense now. YOUR POTENTIAL PAYOUTS WILL AVERAGE BACK UP AFTER SOME TIME OF BEING ON THE HIGHER SIDE IN THE MARKET PRICES...NO NEED TO WORRY!!!

Sort:

It's based on a rolling average, last week's steem price, I think.
And the week before last the price was up to 2.70

From what I dug up its supposed to be tied to the current Steem price like all other coins do. I think maybe the ticker system is lagging but I been watching this for a few days and more so today. I lost about $50 on a post today so that has me questioning this one lol and its still dropping. My payouts seem fine but unsure because due to the way its working I am confused on what should be what lol

All I know is that is does not go up and down when steem does, it's on a rolling average

Gotcha, that makes sense. So basically if we stay at the price we are at or higher in a few days the average should turn around. This part I wasn't aware of. So used to most coins paying out at current prices. I worked in PIVX and we did our staking rewards linear but with a tie to prices buried in the code so I wasn't sure what was going on here. Hate to worry people but I had a lot of people asking me this all week and I was not aware of this one lol. Hey can't find out unless you ask the community sometimes. Thanks my friend, eases the worry I had

No worries mate, I had the same concern a few months back till someone helped me out.
They should steemit university courses

LOL they should. That is a hidden gem in the system. Actually now something I wondered last night makes more sense. I had a small payout that came to what it claimed as $5 in SBD, I sent it to blocktrades to my Bitpay account and it ended up being about $10, I thought I beat the system lol. Now it makes sense, its the old volume vs high price thing. Low payout you get more coin due to the lower price so the volume increases...so you see low but current market value brings you back up due to having more coin lol.

Luckily I been in crypto enough to get everything and help people but I had no set clue how this payout potential was built under the hood. Now I think I got it lol...thank you for that. I hope my post here doesn't spread panic but I will inform the commentators what you told me as they come in. Damage control all day if need be lol

Hahaha man you know a lot more about this than I do, I understood about half of what you just said. The mind boggles ;o)

lol. I guess working in a coin with their marketing and having to promote it rubbed off on me, I had to crash course a lot of math and lots of weird crap in PIVX lol. So I grasp these things a little strangely . Its basically the balance system. In crypto if a coins value is lower you get more actual coin....value goes up you get less of that coin volume. Like if BTC was $1 you would get 1 BTC for $1 but now we are up to almost $3000 there so we get that crazy .0001 junk satoshi. Less volume but worth more. How I see it, we are actually making a little more than what the potential payout is saying if you take it to market when its a low payout. You got more coin and can sell higher than what that system is doing with the average. Lost you didn't I ? lol. Its a good thing, maybe a little bad if we skyrockets up to $10 abruptly for but it would reaverage.

@sflaherty SBD is recognized by steemit as 1$, but on exchangers it worth more than that. That's why your $5 SBD is amounting to 10$ outside steemit.

Oh I get that, but the volume was past $5 worth, at market the value was only $1.40 ish when I sent it last night but I actually received almost 6 SBD for an amount around $4.75 SBD payout. So its that volume balance thing. Basically all my payouts today have been a little higher than what its saying the payout is in value. Its a bit overly mathed up lol. In crypto when something is valued less you get more in actual decimals for the coin value, when higher your usual coin volume is goes down due to the market balancing system. Even with the ammount tied to the market version of SBD at $1.40 as it was with my transaction last night, I ended up getting more volume so it put it more than double the price. I am probably not making sense lol but I am meaning in volume not the value of market price when it comes to the higher pay on lower percentage.

@sflaherty, thanks for the post. And thank you to everyone who provided information about the declining "potential payouts." I bet no one would have seen it (and especially expressed concern) if the payouts were increasing.

I wanted to write a post like this, but you beat me to it! So instead of writing it now, I will throw my support your way instead.

You can make a post to make people aware its okay lol. Just an averaging system and nothing to worry about. In the end when you sell the coin you will end up with the right value anyways.

Re-Steemed, and upvoted, and commented, and I even ran the sweeper in the house today too! LOL! Seriouly tho, great post. I noticed this my first week, and still not sure why its happening.

A couple of the guys are saying the price is determined by a rolling average off the last 7 days combined, if that is the case then yea that makes sense because after HF19 it lowered a bit. So if we keep up where we are at in a few days it should raise up. I hope that is the case, I lost a bit on a few good posts lol....had me wonder what was going on here

Hi @sflaerty I have the same problem too brother as you know weve been raising money for my grandma. My post about her condition was $255 dollars 2days ago but now it drops to $229 and im afraid we cant get the amount we are raising. Actually it has the same vote numbers and what surprise me my votes has even risen up but the payout is dropping.

I actually even check the steem price but its actually going up right?both steem dollars n steem alone are moving up on trade sites so I also wonderwhy payouts are dropping...

That is what happened to my dads post. Not to raise a stink about this with Steemit, they did great by me either way but I wonder if the system ticker is lagging. I lost about $80 on my dads post but it still helped. Issue though, I am losing a lot this morning yet the price of Steem is up so that had me finally say what is up here lol. I just lost $50 on a post coming in a few days and its still dropping so I am worried it will zero out with the rate its going or if it will all the sudden rise up

Great post @sflaherty. I had been wondering about this myself. Very relevant post and question that I'm sure many of us were asking ourselves!

I have just found your blog by way of @cryptofrygirl's #steemian-angels post

https://steemit.com/steemit/@cryptofrygirl/expose-of-steemian-angels-2

where I received a very surprising but welcome, honorable mention and I am very glad I did.

Thanks to both of you and keep up the good work my friend!

I will of course. be following the progress of your blog from now on.

I am so glad to meet you. Yea that is my fiance, she decided to try to put her account to use to help others and I really hope that post of hers brings you some attention. We also got a little help from the community recently so we would love to pay it forward. Thanks for the kind comment, you need anything let either one of us know, door is always open

Thank you my friend and the same to you.! :)

I noticed this my first week here. One of my posts went from 540 to 517 in the two days before payout. I read someones rant that steemit skims from posts right before payout. Im too new here to know tho. It just seems to me that once someone votes and an amount is added it shouldnt go down at all.

Only thing I can gather is maybe the system ticker is lagging. Unsure how it performs when we get paid out but so far my pay outs seem okay but maybe the ticker is wrong?

Same here. And it seems like my posts are getting almost zero visibility. Which i don't understand. It wasnt this way before hf19 :/ :(

We have a few factors. First I found out the potential payouts aren't tied to the current price, its on a rolling percentage scale of all the combined market prices for Steem for the last week and averaged out. So due to the selloffs that dropped the prices all week its averaging lower and due to that its gonna take a few days of decent prices to bring that up. But this is nothing to worry about because you sell it will be sold at current market value, actually I think you get more volume if they pay less so actually you should end up with what you originally had...don't quote me on that but my math is saying that lol. We are having another issue, voting power now takes up 5% per vote at 100% voting power and I been telling people this but turns out not many are aware of this, so in the first few days everyone been running around vote happy lol...so now we are in a time where a lot of people are recovering their voting power, so less payouts in votes are happening. we gotta use the votes a bit more wisely I guess in order to help each other. Other reason, a lot of people are rushing in so more competition for being seen, this is why I have that Steemit Blogger Central project...so we can help eachother in our Chat area to self promote and it seems to help. We have to promote our work out there, its gonna be very important to do that as this grows to maintain our positions

Thanks a lot for explaining all This. I get it now. So the steemit blogger central , that's in chat?
Another thing i operate 99% off my phone. I don't think it shows me my voting power. It also doesn't allow me to search for anything ..... i have a Samsung Galaxy s5 currently. ...guess steemit platform doesn't like mobile right now? Not a huge deal really bevause i feel i have had good success for my short time here so far , but i don't knows how to check voting power ...

No you have to view your voting power on other tool sites, lol...maybe it will be put in this when its out of beta but you can check yours by going here and putting your profile name in the right hand box: https://steemnow.com/

Steemit Blogger Central is a page I have on Facebook, Twitter and we have a chat room for our community on SLACK, if you want to check it out here are the links for those page, the SLACK you just have to sign up by clicking on the link and confirming the email it sends you.

Lol okay on the voting pwr.
Also sweet, gonna check out the fb page.
Thanks a lot for all your help

Anytime, I actually was just shown that page by someone in our SLACK lol..I was using a different page but that one seems more easy to understand and it shows your voting power regaining back in real time. Glad that helped

PS I just checked out the page. Thanks for sharing that with me!

No problem, I really hope you like it, we are slowly growing so seems like in the long run it could help a lot of people.

I shamelessly self promoted on the page. Will def keep tabs on that page. I think the more this thing takes off, the more and more we will see on fb. I share on my own personal page but that is slow going. It seems more and more people I talk to are getting up to speed on crypto. I am in STEEMIT for the long term. It will be an interesting ride, I am sure.

No shame in self promoting, its going to be a must when the crowds fill in here lol. You need anything let me know, always here to help

Also i have a post getting paid out tomorrow that was 280 with the same amount of votes after HF19 and with the same is now down $50. This is kinda demoralizing

same here too ...dropping fast :(

Its that rolling percentage scale. I promise when you go to sell it at current price, do the math, if this is that rolling scale thing I just told you about then it should come out above what you are seeing for payout potential. I just tested one that was saying only $5 last night and it sold for $10, now I get why I got so much for it last night, I thought I beat the system lol but its only because you get higher volume due to the lower price showing

yeah i have the same going on

I got word its due to a rolling average percentage system they have. Basically the setup is a combination average of market prices for the last seven days. We been down a bit since HF19 so the average is lower. If we keep the price up it will average back up. Either way we will get the right pay, because if you take it to the market you will get the current price anyways. I figured post and ask, was worrying me something was wrong lol

anytime, I figured this was a question a lot of us had, including myself...luckily its nothing to really worry about, it will correct itself soon

the steem dollar is dropping in value as many people sell them on small exchanges

Yea that never seems to rise much. I try to hold myself, but I just wanted to be sure. Turns out Steem potential payouts isn't tied to the current price. A couple of guys clued me in that its on a rolling scale system and averages a percentage of the combined market values of the week. So due to HF19 aftermath of everyone selling and dropping it a bit, its gonna take a few days of good prices to bring up the potential payouts system. Makes sense now

Ah! Yes that makes more sense.
Atleast I hope Poloniex get the maintenance fixed, so the low volume market does not get more flooded with steemians selling steem dollars for any kind of price.

I went to Blocktrades for selling, fair price, low fees and way more instant into my bitcoin wallet lol....don't think I will be returning to Polo anymore, a lot of people are done with it at this stage, they just don't invest in the upgrades they need so I suspect that will slowly be a doomed exchange

Yeah smart choice! Did you read the post about buying in bittrex and selling on blocktrades? I would do that, but my head is to boiled to go through with it.

actually I buy through Blocktrades. I been running around comparing fees, Blocktrades seems to be way cheaper...plus I don't have to battle the traders lol. it just gives me it at current market value and done lol. I love Bittrex but I think with Steem I am gonna stay out of the exchanges

Ok... should really get an account there aswell then. I think blocktrades prices is taken from polo, so in that way.. you get the best of both worlds... (rock out the show, then relax take it slow)

actually most the prices come from coinmarketcap.com or a few other market watchers like their site. Its an average of all the exchanges combined. I tend to use coinmarketcap because they list all the exchanges prices, always good to know from an outside look at the whole space when trading, then you can sell to the highest and buy at the lowest, trickery I know but saves you in the long run
