What is the Difference Between "Active" "Trending" and "Hot"
I'm a Steemit newbie and I'm still trying to learn the basics of the platform. This is a question that I can't seem to find an answer to.
The first two categories seem fairly obvious though I'm uncertain about some of the details:
Trending - The most popular posts currently on the site
I don't know if this is measured by the number of upvotes, comments or the amount of STEEM the post is earning. But the idea is still pretty clear to me.
Active - Posts that are being interacted with right now
I'm not sure if this category measures upvotes, comments or both. But again, the idea is clear.
But what's "Hot"?
I wouldn't have an issue if there was no "hot" category. That muddies the waters. The name sounds like it could be applied to trending and active posts, but I really have no idea. The existence of this undefined category that seems like it could overlap with the other two makes me unsure of the definitions of Trending and Active.
So I'm a bit lost.
Any explanation would be nice. Or maybe somebody will prove me an idiot by revealing that there is in fact easy-to-find information on this subject that I was too blind to see. Either way, I'm interested in the answer.
I'll say goodbye now with some shameless self-promotion. If you're interested in animation, check out my latest blog post! Thanks.
active post are old posts with new post, so someone replied to the old post which becomes active again.
hope this helps ;)
I don't think so. I just checked the active tab and this post was listed there. It's certainly not old.
more correctly active just means there is discussions being made on the post. Regardless of post age.
yes your right age doesn't matter
hot post have the current potential of becoming trending posts.
they are mostly a few hours old but already have many upvotes and/or comments.
because of a lot attention and upvoted value related to the time they are hot for getting a big reward.
Trending Posts are the ones with the biggest rewards !
OK, I'm a new minnow here, and we STILL could use a little more clarity on this. Thanks.
There's no longer an active tab, so things are a bit more clear. I think trending is more about what's been popular over the course of a day or two, hot is more current. What posts are the most popular right now?
maybe 'hot' is the most upvotes in the last 30 minutes?
or the most upvotes/second. I dunno.
Thanks for asking the question(s) that I also have. I see things have changed a bit since your original post. Perhaps the FAQ help text should be updated. Currently it shows:
If I understand the chatter in the responses here, Hot seems to relate to recent as in up to 4 hours of interest, perhaps based on upvotes, perhaps based on replies or some mix. Trending has proven interest but not sure what "stake weighted" means. Maybe weighted by the reputation level of the poster.
