Myths and legends. Part 2. Unicorn

The Unicorn is a legendary creature that has been described since antiquity as a beast with a large, pointed, spiraling horn projecting from its forehead. The Unicorn is often depicted as a white horse-like animal with a long horn and cloven hooves.

It was commonly described as an extremely wild woodland creature, a symbol of purity and grace, which could only be captured by a virgin. In the encyclopedias its horn was said to have the power to render poisoned water potable and to heal sickness.

There is a story: When God created animals and birds, he asked Adam to come up names for them, the Unicorn was first. And after when Adam and Eve violated the prohibition and ate apple, they were expelled from Heaven. God ask Unicorn, if he want to stay in Heaven or go to the Earth with Adam and Eve, he went to the Earth, because of his compassion to people. For that God gave him his blessing.
