Steemit release 0.14.0 : BIG CHANGES in the VOTING system ahead.

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

I believe that this update is worth being shared to the community, as it will deeply impact how we vote after the 13th of September.

If you have a look on GitHub you will read about the new release, and especially the details of the new vote balancing:

###Vote Balancing

Rebalanced target votes per day from 40 to 5. Votes will still regenerate over a 5 day period, so an account can vote 25 times sporadically before incurring large penalties to voting power, or 5 times daily. The goal of this change is to redistribute where the voting power is coming from. There are currently a few whales that vote often and many more than vote far under 40 votes per day. Accounts are too often at 100% vote power. Every block that an account is at 100% vote power is lost potential. The goal is to get as many accounts under 100% vote power at all times. This should lead to rewards being spread out due to the lack of consensus among whales as to what defines quality content.

It means that we no longer have 40 votes per day, but only 5.

It's a drastic change, and will force us to better allocate our votes. After the 5th vote, the voting power will drastically drop. Basically, you have 25 votes before losing a lot of voting power.

It says that it is great news for the redistribution but I would beg to differ on this remark.
I believe this feature will concentrate even more power to the top accounts. Assuming some whales are bot operated to target specific account, I believe that will make it more complicated to whales to allocate power to "the rest", once they 25 votes have been used.

Imho, 15 votes per day would have been a better target. Who knows... Let's see how it goes.
##The Steemit team is really working hard to improve the platform, and that is great news. Kudos.

The rules are always changing smh...

Yes. It's a pay cut for me and a "Get out of here! We don't want you." to the new user. You could grow old reading the unhappy comments here...

So, just come on in at 8:00 pm, do your 5 votes, and go watch a movie!! Like a policeman saying, "Nothing to see here... Move along please..."

I would trust the guys.
I think changes are good (5 votes is maybe to harsh) and at leas they are experimenting.

A guy like @smooth knows what he is doing.
(go on the forum #price channel or read his comments. He's very-smart and he has a plan.)

We are still in a BETA version too. So, let's relax and see how it moves. If it's a disaster, they will roll back.

TEST-FAIL-LEARN-UPDATE-TEST-FAIL-LEARN-UPDATE-TEST... and then it's perfect. :-)

5 Votes per day at 100% but if I vote at 50% that is 10 votes. If I vote at 25% that is 20 votes. If I vote at 10% that is 40 votes. I have no problem with it.
