I Ran a Test on Facebook to see How Much Visibility a Steemit Link Gets and the Result Was Interesting
@hilarski wrote on his blog about Facebook shadow banning Steemit posts, so I ran a test.
I asked everybody who sees the post to like it, or react to it in some way.
The end result was that it got 10 likes, which is pretty low on average for me, especially since I specifically asked for likes, but the most interesting part is the fact that the people who liked it largely consisted of people who usually don't like my posts - and the people who generally do, didn't notice it. I even asked a couple of close FB friends about it, and they had missed it. Of course, not everyone will like a post even when specifically asked to, but you'd think that close friends who regularly like my stuff anyway would have reacted.
I find this rather interesting. Maybe the algorithm blocks the posts from the people who we usually engage with the most?
Have you had similar experiences?
That's odd... wouldn't surprise me one bit, though. After the youtube videos about facebooks behavior with ads and how they direct them to people with people they know referenced in "like this also" whilr those people having been questioned later said they had never actually liked such an ad.
On a h3h3 episode they also made a parody account of "soflo antonio" and after facebook shut it down it had transferred all followers of that page to the real soflo.
A couple days ago I made a thread in the swedish section on reddit about Steemit and when I checked the "new section" from incognito (logged out of my account) it wasn't visible but when logged in it was showing it.
All I have to say is... remembet myspace? Sorry older platforms, but when its time to go, its time to go. You can hang on with fake views, stolen content, false ad views, dumbing down the majority of its users. Having 99% of the people just watching stuff and blindly liking and giving their attention away for profit to their shareholders while the 1% make money alongside as "content providers" where they steal conten off of other platforms similar to it and almost never face any consequences.
All of that is already fixed here, and we haven't even gotten out of beta yet.
I wish the downvotes on reddit each time I have mebtioned Steemit anywhere woulf be visible of who gave it. Right now it looks pretty censory.
This reminded me of something from a few months back.
I posted this TED talk on Facebook:
Clearly entitled "Quit Social Media".
Howeeeeveerrr, when posted on Facebook, the headline changed..
So much smarts on your end, IDK hardly anything compared to you with all the posts I keep seeing you make, I feel like I haz the dumbz lol. It is sad for me LOL. Keep your good work up my friend. Barry
Interesting test, people have been reporting this for a few weeks so I imagine it will get more attention now.
RS and UV for you.
I am enjoying reading and learning more from all you people that understand this space much better than I do. Have a good weekend. Barry
Have a great weekend!
Mmmm, in Facebook i cant sent link in chat are blocked. Cheers
Really?
Yup. I want put private chat the link of my post . And message never sent , the rest if messages sent all. I can put a picture later
Yeah, FB has been censoring some links for a long time. It think it was years ago when it had blocked most torrent site links. But I'm not sure what's the current situation, it's been while since I've tried it.
I've taken to posting steemit links in the comments of other people's posts. I imagine they're a lot harder to shadowban.
