A Few Quick Steemit Ideas: Better Tag Searching and Following Tags

People by and large join Steemit for the possibilty to earn money. It's the most obvious factor that differentiates Seemit from other social media platforms.

However, earning money in the beginning may not happen for a while, and this is why Steemit should work on hooking people on the platform by offering a fun user experience.

I came up with a couple of quick ideas of what I'd like to see.

1) Better Tag Searching

On the front page, instead of filtering tags with the right hand side bar, I'd like to be able to directly write a tag, which would then generate the latest posts with that tag attached to them to my feed.

So, I would have the normal view of my feed by default, then I could write "crosscountryskiing" and that would then alter my feed to consist of posts tagged with "crosscountryskiing". I would never do this because I hate cross country skiing, but I'm sure someone would.

The benefit of this would be that people could more easily search for stuff they like and likewise people writing about more obscure stuff, like cross country skiing, would more easily find an audience of likeminded people.

I've found myself wanting to read some stuff on Steemit, but gotten frustrated with how time consuming it is to search for more unpopular tags, like something gaming related, for instance.

If, for instance, a new game has come out, and I'd be interested to see if people on Steemit have written reviews for it, I could search for posts with the tag "Brand New Awesome Videogame" on it.

2) Following Tags

Secondly, another nice feature would be to have the ability to follow tags. Just like we can now follow users, it'd be great to be able to have its own feed for tags that we have decided to follow. So, like cross country skiing? Just can't get enough of cross country skiing, but you're limited in time so you don't have all the time ine the world to search Steemit for cross country skiing? Never fear, you can just follow that tag, and have an entire news feed for all the posts about cross country skiing. As well as other topics, popular or obscure.

And jaysus christ, how many times can I say cross country skiing in post.

Anyway, this would make it easier for users to follow stuff that they like, without clicking through the list of tags individually, which is pretty time consuming. It would also make it more encouraging for people to write about something that they like, even if's not a popular subject on Steemit right now, because people who are interested in the same stuff would know that they can find an audience more easily. It could also spread out the tags a bit more, right now everything gets put under the "life"tag, which can mean pretty much anything.
