Are you also a curator if you upvote your own post?

You create a post and upvote it, does that means you enroll to 75% as author part from 25% as curator reward? Or you just increased post value and stay at 75% as author? Does same apply for comment upvotes?

Hi @sanevys,

Yes, you can be curator too on your own post.
But if you want to maximize your curation rewards too, don't vote on your post too quickly.
You should vote after a few minutes passed.

Why?
Everyone votes in the first 30 minutes, will share some of their curation rewards (CR) with aurthor.
The time schedule is like this:

  • 0 minutes: 100% of CR goes to author.
  • 15 minutes: 50% of CR goes to author.
  • 30 minutes and after: 0% of CR goes to author.

Don't be too late neither:)
When people with more Steem Power do vote after you, you will get more CR.

I tend to vote on posts after 22-25 minutes of creation, so even I share 27-17% of my rewards with the author, I will get higher rewards because of people vote after me.

This is true for every vote you make on any blog posts not only your own.

So if this is true, all curators should wait 30mins for content to be profitable for them. And author leaves with 0. By the way if you upvote a post right away in first minute. That means, you won't get curation rewards? Example you upvote post that is valued 10$ and it becomes 1000$ after 7days. You won't get anything, because you upvoted first?

And isn't curation losts it value? If everyone waits for 30min? And curation by it's mean suggest finding good content first

I found this:
What determines how much of the curation reward goes to the author versus curators?

The rewards are allocated so that 75% of the payout goes to the author of the post/comment, and 25% goes to the curator.

Of the 25% that goes to the curator, that portion will be split between the author and the curator if the curator votes within the first 30 minutes. The split of the 25% between the author and curator during the first 30 minutes is calculated linearly based on the time the vote is cast.

If a post is upvoted the moment of posting, 100% of the curation reward goes to the author.
At 3 minutes, 90% goes to the author and 10% to the curator.
At 15 minutes it's a 50/50 split.
At 27 minutes, 10% goes to the author and 90% to the curator.
If a post is upvoted 30 min after posting, 100% of the curation reward goes to the curator.

So basically if this it true. All people that are upvoting posts right away they are created. Does not get any curation value even with post making 1000usd?

yes, that's how it is.

This rule was introduced because of the voting bots. Useless posts got upvoted, regardless of the content just for the curation rewards.

Now, it doesn't worth to upvote very early. Everyone can decide, if he/she wants to vote earlier than the 30 minutes threshold.

If everyone would wait 30 minutes, that wouldn't mean that a good content go lost. If a "good" content get upvoted after 30 minutes it is still got upvoted. It also makes it more likely that people actually going to read the article before voting.

Also not everyone is aware of this rule;)

Still trying to figure this out myself and I am glad you brought it up.

Yeah hopefully someone with the required knowledge will see this post :D

Yes, you are. But the full benefit goes to the author, which is you. So you can't expect anything as curator.
Good question.

Thanks for info :)

In principal, I think yes, but it depends when you upvote.Withinh the first 30 minutes your upvote gets a bigger part of the payputs.
