Havin! The game that allows you to spend steem dollars in the real world. Huge Update!
Spend steem dollars in real stores and earn steem by playing!
Earlier this week I promised to update everyone on the status of Havin every Monday and Friday and today is a HUGE UPDATE!
First off, we've launched our own youtube channel with a trailer made by our very own @alechahn. More will be coming as we approach our launch date. These will be used in our marketing material to stores and consumers. So we hope you'll subscribe and share them on all your social media accounts. That exposure helps us ALOT!
Secondly, Havin was designed from the beginning to have a "change purse".
A small, simple wallet, for spending steem dollars in stores and online and sharing with other players. We've now split the change purse out into a stand alone wallet we're tentatively calling steembux. There is still the change purse in game and they share 99% of the same code, but making a stand alone version made a lot of sense for this.
This wallet is designed to be about simple as you can possibly make a crypto wallet. It will be available on github before the weekend is out. We will be putting it in the google play store for free download, possibly iTunes as well, but that depends mostly on if I can scrape together enough from posting about it, to get a Macbook Pro to compile it on. ;)
Screenshots are here...
It's a multicurrency wallet that rests on steem dollars and uses the blocktrades API to allow spending in any currency supported by @blocktrades
This means you can spend your steem dollars to purchase things using bitcoin, litecoin or others. Plus people can pay you in whatever currency is comfortable for them and you'll receive steem, steem dollars or steem power, your choice. This is all thanks to @blocktrades awesome API.
So why did I start a separate project with a standalone wallet?
Besides the obvious fact that some people really do just want a wallet sometimes...
Back in July I took on a bounty offered by @pharesim to create a stripped down library that could do offline signing of transactions using a stored key as opposed to sending your password to a signing service. The library was supposed to be completely flat and should not require node or browserify in order to run. It's supposed to be the steem equivalent of the library used by bitaddress.org
Doing it this way is immensely more secure. I started the project then had some health concerns get in the way of finishing it and stepped away for a few months. In the meantime @trogdor did most of the actual work and deserves like 90% of the credit, but we've had one final hurdle in that signing never has worked quite right due to differences in the way node and vanilla-js handle arraybuffers.
This wallet is my commitment to getting that fully functional. By having an entire wallet in it's own separate project, my hope is to bring more eyes to bear on that section of code. In the meantime I got it working by monkey patching a minified version of @svk's steemlib and it looks like at least that much is working correctly. However the end goal here is to deliver on my promise to @pharesim and get the library delivered, because at this point I'm starting to feel like Captain Ahab!
In the meantime, now steem has a very simple wallet that is fully compatible with a large number of crypto currencies and it's all intended to be very seamless.
Everyone here at havin hopes you will enjoy it!
The game has made immense progress as well!!!
We were originally using a barcode scanner and the google search API in order to fill out the necessary fields for products. We found in testing that this didn't work as well as hoped. For example a can of coffee brought up among other things something about bookshelves... In Swedish!
So we've gutted that and have found a much better product search API. This will be integrated over the weekend, then the sign up screens go in and we activate full beta. In the meantime, alpha testing is open on Saturday.
You will need ionic viewer installed from either google play or itunes to be part of either the alpha or the beta groups.
We strongly recommend before you participate in alpha or beta that you go to Anon Steem and acquire an account specifically for havin from @someguy123's incredibly easy and useful service. This is because using your real live steemit account to help us test is a really bad idea for the simple fact that anything could go wrong during testing.
Remember all people in the Alpha & Beta groups will receive unique in game attributes and items, with the best stuff going to the earliest adopters.
That's it for this week's update, check back Monday for our next major announce, you think this was big...
Just wait until you see what we havin.store for you next!
