UNIFORMITARIANISM

There's a law in geology known as the law of uniformitarianism which basically in plain terms is "the present is the key to past" and so geologist use the present conditions to interpret what possibly occurred in the past. A little fun now, i tried using my girlfriend's present to determine things she did in the past she wouldn't tell me about but yet it's a blank page, wonder if that law don't apply to women.
So anyway this law tells that the rocks speak and geoscientist understand it's language and use it to interpret paleo-environmental conditions (ancient conditions) just incase you've been wondering how we do it, it's not rocket science it's basically linguistics... Hahaha. We simply bring logical explanations to the current state of things and predict the processes we see in action today and relate it to similar past occurence and we can predict the future..
