Post Exposure, Upvote Bots and Re-Steeming...
(My opinion...)
"One Human Basket" Update
Due to low curation rewards and the loss of my posts on my page, I am no longer offering a resteeming service. This may sound selfish but you can see why I am making this decision:
18.292 SP Author Rewards (weekly)
3.555 SP Curation Rewards (weekly)
Not only am I gaining minimal rewards by resteeming (3.555 SP), but I am losing votes on my posts because they are getting lost behind all those I resteem.
I am upset Steemit
hasn't split it up to keep author posts on one page, and resteems on the other. I cannot afford to continue to resteem and lose exposure on my posts. I do not have as much time as I'd like to dedicate to my posts, and so I need to maximize their rewards.
I still don't approve of upvote bots
I think upvotes bots truly are selfish. BTW.
I am no longer voting for users whose comments are mostly upvote bots
or that are lacking in real user engagement. Clearly these users are afraid they won't get any votes. This seems to undervalue their material, and makes an author look insecure. I choose not to use nor support them.
I am sorry if you have a million reasons why you should use upvote bots. I think they make you look needy, selfish, insecure, and prove a lack of merit in your own content...
"One Human Basket" still curates poetry and other posts
that use the tag "onehumanbasket". If you use the tag, I will 100% (real person) upvote your post. I reserve the right, however, not to upvote a post if I feel it has no value. This includes posts whose comments are a majority of bots, which are incapable of critical thinking.
How to use the "onehumanbasket" tag:
- I host a weekly poetry dice contest. Official entries to the Poetry Dice Challenge 3000 (PDC3K) will have my highest priority vote. Please only use the "poetrydice" tag for official entries to the contest. Abusers will be flagged.
- I also curate posts that use the "poetry” tag. These posts are top priority.
- Use the tag "onehumanbasket" on photography, art or any other types of posts besides poetry. Posts using both "poetry" and "onehumanbasket," however, will remain higher priority since I wish to curate the poetry community specifically.
- Any left-over voting power gets used for highly selective posts that I hope contribute to the "onehumanbasket" feel.
(I reserve the right to not upvote your post.)
Steem-on Philippines!
I really enjoy being able to contribute to the greater community on Earth. I am proud to foster posts from the Philippines and other countries. Even if your post is in another language, I will still vote for you if you use the "onehumanbasket" tag. Cheers~!
Thanks for sharing your experience. I am resteem articles when I really like them :)
It was part of my curation pledge to include a resteem...I am no longer doing that. Thanks for commenting as a (real) person, much appreciated @mogli! :-) Cheers~!
I share your thoughts for the most part, the idea of using bots to upvote kind of defeats the purpose of creating quality posts and adding value to the platform... so as much as I understand the necessity to grow when you first start out it might not be the best way to do so. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for your input @meno. The desire to grow is balanced out by greed. The desire to create valuable content is balanced out by the desire for votes. Hehe. I haven't made enough $ on here to replace a "real" job's income. But I have found an amazing and supportive community that gives me feedback on my content, much the same as a survey might gather information on how marketable a product is...Really, all I have learned is that someone somewhere will like your content, because someone somehwere is just like you. It doesn't make anyone's post better than any other's except for the level of common ground attained with each audience. And that I have a pretty unique view...
Human psychology is amazing.
For someone who has been around as long....
You should know how steemit is... nothing has changed.
The entire site is selfish. Everyone wants upvotes and the users who have votes worth anything are too busy paying themselves.
Round and around... but hey, thats the game.
I got over being frustrated long time ago.
As for buying votes.... its fairly pathetic and makes the site look horrible lol.
Yetall the whales are involved. So good luck changing that rediculous scheme
I don't aim to change it.
I refuse to participate or support upvote bots.
That is all.
Plus no more resteems.
I feel your pain as a fellow curator. I try to help a lot of new steemians find an audience and usually I'll share their posts until they get some momentum if I feel they are quality. It really does seem to fuck over the curator though and that is an unintended consequence of trying to help others. I vote for witnesses that support fixing this problem and I hope it happens one day. I totally understand the situation you are in though. <3
Just an announcement ;-) I'm going selfish too and no longer resteeming....
PEOPLE create communities... bots and code do not. Whether it's because the early days of Steemit seemed to be dominated by developers or something else... I just don't care for the way so many seem to rely on technology for "interaction." Some bot claiming to have "read" my stuff? Pretty detached...
Agreed. I'm in the PNW - it would be great to have you at a Steemit meetup! :-)
Fully understandable, thanks for all your efforts. :)
Thanks for understanding @zararina :-) You still get 100% of my upvote.
Thanks a lot. :D
Hopefully these changes (or is it just one?) do boost your posts.
I don't really know how resteems(shares!?) work on other platforms since I don't do other social media. But here on Steemit ....with a million post going by a minute, I get how restreems can make your own posts harder to see/catch.
Sorry I missed the Poetry Dice challenge this time.... i WILL get the next one. I even had some good ideas going for this dice...I just never sat down without distractions and got to work.
Peace
Question: do you get curation rewards just for resteeming someone?
My understanding is that you get no curation rewards from resteeming.
All your curation rewards come from upvoting comments and, Mostly, from upvoting POSTS.
If you click your curation rewards you will see a "re" before the post title you got credit for - that is the credit you have received from resteeming that post...mine was at 3 SP for the week, so not enough to keep it up in the scheme of things.
New roll in a few hours...xo
