Well said and this is a big problem with the steemit platform. How do we solve this? It is a difficult problem. The way post are promoted to trending or hot probably needs to be changed. More manual curation I suppose and yes communities like steemstem can help the platform. The big problem I see is the steemit users (called whales) that have high voting power and vote value are not using their "power" by finding and promoting good posts. There is a lot of abuse of the power on this platform. As uncle Ben said to Spider-man "With great power comes great responsibility" and what I have seen is that many on the steemit platform are not using their power responsibly.

I think trusting and hoping that whales will do the good thing with their votes is shown to not be working. Some of them help others, at least in part, while the majority just mind their own business. Users need a nudge, they answer to incentives. If the focus was really to have good content on this platform they should invest some delegations of Steem Power in communities, subcommunities can be really effective in micromanaging and help new users, they just need some air. Without oxygen, sparks never trigger a fire.
