The Logo...steemCreated with Sketch.

in #steemit9 years ago (edited)

I'll throw down my two cents on this new logo with everyone else, I suppose. It feels a bit like intro posts, something everyone does...except me, I didn't do an intro post. Too mainstream.

I'm not really a fan of this logo. I like the tweaks to the style of the layout, such as we see in the Post button, but the logo itself feels like the same generic icon trope used by every chat messenger social media app whatever since the first caveman sent that historically prehistoric shopping list to his cavelady via SMS. Yep. If he had carved the message on his IRock tablet and thrown it at her, the stone might have been engraved with Steemit's new logo.

We've come a long way in our communications, so what's with this bland logo? It seems to be two speech bubbles which, fittingly enough, have nothing to say.

To be fair, it's not terrible. The heart of Steemit IS communication and socialization, after all. I like the intent, I just don't see anything that makes me think of Steemit when I look at it. I think of every media platform that Steemit should replace. Steemit renders the competition obsolete. There IS no competition in a sense because it's so unique.

So when can we expect a logo that says as much?

There you have a dollar now...

I agree with this new logo being crap...
why was the old one replaced in the 1st place?

Thanks! Who knows? Maybe it's something like when a teenager feels themselves reaching the precipice of maturity, and they begin trying to redefine their image. Steemit is getting bigger alongside blockchain, maturing, so they may have wanted to express that. Or, perhaps they aim to continue growing by riding a manufactured wave of "newness."

But everything is green...

So have some eggs,
They're really keen...

Or perhaps some ham
If Halal's not your thing...

So is it safe to say a logo is worth a thousand words?

I would have to really agree that the logo is not unique anymore. It is more generic and basic. The old logo was really the best. It was unique and hip. It was something that anyone looking at it could instantly associate with the steemit platform. This new logo... does not do that at ALL. I look at it and pass it as if I have seen it a million times already. The old logo made me pause and take notice.

If you ask me, it should return to the old logo.

Yeah, logo is pretty lame. Gotta call an egg an egg.

I kinda like the green thing going on, not too shabby

I really don't like the logo, either. It's like we all now work for a recycling company. Let's make the internet a greeeeener place... right.

My opinion...

To be honest, to me, it doesn't matter much what logo a company uses. I agree with the points you make, although sometimes logos can be interesting because there is more symbolism than meets the eye.
