Captain America's Alternate versions

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

In the world of comics, nothing and no one is permanent. not even the characters and the roles they play.

their superhero names are not just names but are mantles, symbols that tell a lot about who they are and why they do the things they do. But if you have been really reading comics, you would know that the mantle is something that can be passed or taken over depending on where the writer wants the story to go.

the beauty of this is that it tells us that nothing is absolute and that anybody can be a hero

Today we're going to talk about MARVEL HEROES who had different characters wear their mantle specifically the CAPTAIN AMERICA from the Earth 616 universe.

In my alternate Version series, I'll only be talking about heroes who are commonly known, but let me know in the comments if you want to see another post about heroes who had different people to wear their Mantles.

Steve Rogers

Yes. there had been several Captain Americas in the same Marvel Universe.
The first is the one to wear it was Steve Rogers under the super soldier program of the Strategic Scientific Reserve(S.S.R) which would later be known as S.H.I.E.L.D. with the help of Captain America, the Allies were able to turn the tide of WWII to their favor and defeat the Science Division of the Nazi Regiment known as HYDRA.

During the final days of the war, presumably on or before April 18, 1945, Captain America and Bucky were trying to stop a bomb-loaded drone-plane, launched by Baron Zemo, when the plane exploded, apparently killing his partner Bucky and throwing Rogers into icy Arctic waters of the English Channel. The Super-Soldier Formula prevented crystallization of Rogers' bodily fluid, allowing him to enter a state of suspended animation. Although Rogers and Bucky had seemingly perished, the war still raged on and U.S. presidents and the government picked different volunteers, such as William Naslund, Jeffrey Mace, and another Steve Rogers, over the years, to keep the morale alive, and even after World War II ended.

Steve wore the mantle since the captain america series started and then was killed by Agent Sharon Carter at the end of the CIVIL WAR event.

James Barnes(Bucky/Winter Soldier)
Next to wear the symbol of Captain America was James Buchanan Barnes (Bucky),

we knew him initially as Steve's best friend who was presumed dead until he came back as an assassin for KGB called the Winter Soldier.

Bucky filled in for the role of Cap when steve was presumed to be dead during the final events of CIVIL WAR,
Bucky as Cap had a very interesting take because of the struggle that he had to redeem himself for his sins in his time as a brainwashed assassin of the K.G.B.
steve eventually returned as cap again and Bucky returned to being the Winter Soldier.

Sam Wilson(Falcon)
and the last to take over the role of Captain America is Samuel Wilson commonly known as the Falcon

after Steve loses his powers thanks to the machinations of the IRON NAIL, He experiences rapid aging and becomes a withered old man

during these times, Sam doesn't leave Steve's side and eventually becomes the new Captain America.

Sam Wilson Captain America is a very interesting take because it gives us a picture on how would Captain America fight if He had the ability to fly.

these alternate versions are just my top 3, I'll be making a complete list of alternate Captain Americas (including the ones from different Earths)

lovely fam ... followed you

Interesting information about Captain America. I really did not know there were so many versions of him. Especially, that he actually dies and his friend takes his place. Rapid aging is not a good way to go. lol

Well, I learned a lot about comics world today in this post. Great info. Thank you for sharing it with us. Have a great day. :)

Have an amazing day :)

Can you help me understand why I find all super heroes are fucking annoying?
like I like Superman but that's it.

we all are entitled to our own opinion. no need for profanity. :) thanks for the comment though. appreciate it. :)

This was a very helpful and informative post!

I knew some of the Captain America lore, but not all of this. Thanks for sharing!

glad you liked it!
there's actually a lot more of them.
but i think that's an article for another time.

thank you !

I'll stay tuned for more!

I'm a huge Captain America fan - so this is great.

One of my favorite things about comics is how creative writers and artist have to get with characters who have been around for 70+ years. In the end, they may not always make the best choice, but I appreciate the challenge that they're taking on with these heroes and villians.

thanks glad to have met a fellow fan! yeah i agree. its a constant trial and error process. some changes you like, some changes you absolutely hate.

thanks for your comment!
