Seriously, start creating good content on Steemit, now! (present of Steemit / future of Stemit)

I wrote about this topic a while ago in an article called Put in the work now, until it's too late - the future Steemit may have where I talked about the reason you should do your best to post as much content as possible and gain as many followers as you can before the masses join and before it's too hard to get noticed.

The main reason I wrote that article was because after posting something on Steemit I got to the "New" section of the website, saw my article, and a few seconds later when I refreshed the page I had to scroll down for a while until finding my article again. It was a clear sign that more and more people join Steemit, and if all of them are interested in creating content, it's gonna be pretty hard to get noticed when the "New" section of this website receives around 100 new posts every second.

In this article I want to talk a little about the main reason you should focus on creating high quality content now, that you actually can, before everything changes. This article may also offend a lot of people, especially content creators, but I'd rather offend some people and tell you the truth rather than avoid it and not let you see what's happening right now.

When I first started publishing on Steemit one of the main things I was doing was curate content. I was spending around 2 hours or more every day posting articles and then another 2 hours or more curating (commenting and upvoting other posts). At least that was the plan at first - I actually had to spend more than 2 hours curating.

It wasn't because of the insanely amount of great articles that I had to consume in order to leave great comments and upvote meaningful posts, but because the amount of garbage people were posting was so big, it took me a while to find great articles.

To be honest, I was spending most of my time on the "New" section of the website, and later on I realized that most great articles are on the "Hot" and "Trending" sections. But until I realized that, I already wasted days trying to find good articles that people were posting in order for me to curate and help others.

And here's the thing - right now, this website is still new. I talked about this in the article I mentioned above, so there's no need to repeat myself. What you need to keep in mind is that because this website is new, more and more people join every day, and a big part of those people think they can make hundred of dollars by just posting a bad picture and asking people for upvotes and follows.

Here's the great thing about this - because people do that, there is a huge amount of garbage content published every single day, and not enough high quality articles. There are, of course, people who work hard and create really great posts that bring value to the reader, but their number is pretty small now, compared to the amount of great content creators on the Internet.

But this is actually good. While the website as a whole has to suffer, having so much garbage content, it means you have a chance to get noticed creating amazing things. I saw this opportunity the first day I joined Steemit, and that's the main reason I did my best to create high quality content, as much as I could.

That got me around 200 followers in less than 3 months and over $700 (SBD + SP). This is not because I'm a great content creator, because I'm smart or because I'm better than everyone else. It's simply because you get more rewards if you create better content than the garbage others create.

If you don't know what I mean, let's define "garbage" first. If you go to the "New" section of Steemit you'll see several new articles, some featuring interesting ideas, some featuring really beautiful photos, while A LOT of them featuring absolutely nothing. People who take a picture of themselves thinking others will upvote them because of that picture, girls taking advantage of being beautiful and hoping they will get upvotes for images with their face or body, people who steal a joke from the internet and post it on this website hoping to get something in return, other people sharing videos with all kind of things for a few dollars, and so on.

Those kind of articles bring absolutely no value to the consumer, and that's a huge opportunity for you. You don't have to be really smart and you don't have to be the best content creator. All you have to do is create something decent that offers something to the reader, and you'll get way more rewards than most people on Steemit.

Now, here's the main reason I believe you should start creating high quality content as fast as possible, while you still can. If you've been on the Internet for a while you'll know there are a lot of people out there who are capable of creating amazing things.

There are writers who can write amazing articles that offer a huge amount of value to the reader, artists that can create beautiful things, musicians that compose great songs, and so on. Most of those people have no idea Steemit exists, and they will probably not know for a while.

Imagine what will happen if even half of those people will find out what this website is about and that they can make money just by posting their work. If you think now it's hard to get big on Steemit, good luck getting noticed when all those people will join, creating incredible content.

You'll have to be at least as good as them, if you want to get something in return for your hard work. If the "New" section of Steemit will be filled with amazing articles that offer a lot of value and teach people something, then you'll need to be pretty damn good to compete against that.

If you won't be good enough then people will just ignore you and will focus on those amazing creators. If you want to see one of those people in action and understand more or less what great content can do for you, look at @jerrybanfield. His articles offer a lot of value, he teaches people a lot of things, and he's one of the best authors I know on this website. Because of that he gets a lot of rewards compared to maybe 90% of the people on Steemit.

Now imagine 5000 people like Jerry posting at least 3 times a day. The competition will be huge and because everyone wants to consume amazing content it's gonna be really hard for all of us to get anything for our content if we're not good enough.

While I understand the main reason people love creating garbage content (it's easy, doesn't require a lot of work and maybe you get a few dollars every day), I believe this is just a temporary option. Once this website gets popular, and once amazing content creators start joining, your funny picture or your pretty face won't make more than a few cents(if you're lucky).

So here's my advice - no matter how hard it is and no matter how lazy you are, it's time for you to start working hard on amazing content, build a community around what you do and get a lot of followers, now that you actually have the chance. There is so much garbage out there that you don't need much to get the attention of a bunch of people.

All it takes is some determination and the will to spend more than 30 minutes writing an article, editing it and posting it. If you can do that, you have a much higher chance of making a lot of money compared to the people posting pictures with cats and memes you can find within seconds on Google.

I agree,
One of the down side is lots of "rubbish" articles right now.
Bearing in mind, this is still early stage of Steem it project, so more and more improvements will come soon.
People who remember early days of Facebook, or Youtube, know what I am talking about :)
When big money will come here, or the devs will start generating decent amount of income from the project, then all will be nice an tidy..
I am a Believer! :)

I still believe there will be a huge number of people thinking they can be rich by working 5 minutes on an article or by posting pictures when the website is gonna grow more, just like there are a lot of people on YouTube creating crappy videos hoping to get subscribers. Hopefully, the number of creators interested in high quality content will be higher in the future than the number of people unwilling to work hard for their articles. Thank you for your comment! :)

I think you are absolutely right, it's a great advantage to have found Steemit at such an early stage. However, this advantage is getting smaller for each day because more and more are joining. So we should use our time to find our niche build our own community within the steemit network

Exactly, having a community built around your content is gonna be extremely useful when the website will grow and hundred of people will post something every second. Thank you for your comment! :)

My pleasure! With the good big community we are not as dependent on the trending page but can spread our posts through our own network :)
