The 10 Steemit Commandments For Success

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Regardless of what your intentions on Steemit are, these are general purpose:

  • Thou shalt not put other social media networks above Steemit
    • Seriously... Steemit needs our love and attention right now. So if you're on other social media platforms, why not take a moment to recruit for Steemit?

  • Thou shalt not endorse spam
    • Spam is intrinsically linked to the internet, so it's not going anywhere and it seems to be everywhere. Don't be afraid to remove, or downvote if you got gamed.

  • Thou shalt not take your Steempower in vain
    • Sure, you're new and only have 10 Steempower, so what? You had 0 power on the other networks. Respect your Steempower. Vote for what moves you and your Steempower will eventually move digital moutains.

  • Remember posting times and keep it holy
    • If you're upset that you aren't getting attention, learn from others and observe popular postings times (9 am - 9ish pm)

  • Respect original posters and the Devs
    • We won't agree all the time. Or half the time. Or probably ever, depending on the subject. But respect for the contributors and those who made and continue to make Steemit possible is integral to the overall success of the platform. And it's just plain good manners.

  • Though shalt not downvote in spite, prejudice or as retribution for past down votes
    • With great Steempower comes great responsibility. Conduct yourself with grace. If you have a question or an accusation, discuss it reasonably in the comments' section. Steemians can handle it.

  • Thou shalt not steal
    • OP's are working hard to share content for the pleasure of the Steemit community, don't steal it. Don't be that person. You'll not only be a crappy, intellectually puny human, you will eventually be exposed and shunned.

  • Thou shall not bear weak passwords
    • Don't encourage the behavior of bad actors and thieves who would take away from Steemit. The password situation is real here. Get a password manager. You can use 1password or whatever comes highly recommended by your fellow Steemians.

  • Thou shalt not covet they fellow Steemians' success
    • So you haven't hit the $10,000 post...yet. There's no need to sling mud at those who have, or to be upset about the reward system. Especially when it's about to change, and will probably change again and again in the coming years.

Remember: We have never been paid for using social media until now, and without Steemit we'd still be tippy tapping away on our keyboards in the creative sweatshops of our former overlords.

Now, there are no overlords. Now, we line each other's pockets with money. Now, we do what we love and would have done anyway and we have the potential to change our own lives.

So if you're here purely for money, get in line. And get REALLY interesting, real quick. These cats around here can smell bullshit coming a mile away.
