Steemit needs Advertisement SystemsteemCreated with Sketch.

What could be a better way to enhance Steemit's monetary system, and reward the users better, than to add an advertisement system to it. Yeah yeah, a lot of people hate ads, and want to keep Steemit ad free, but this is not efficient and believe me, we can make a lot more money and make the system more self-sustainable if we add advertisements, and it won't even be that annoying as you think.

First of all, I am not talking about popup ads, or annoying inline ads, I am talking only about a small 728x90 pixel banner ad that would be positioned below the article and between the comment section:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The benefits are obvious:

  • More earnings to authors without applying extra inflationary pressure to Steem holders
  • The website is more self-sustainable, the owners don't need to power down anymore, so the inflation will be reduced further
  • Not annoying at all, and the benefits out-weight the drawbacks. Not to mention that we already have counter that counts the number of views/article
  • It could attract a lot of advertisers that would spent money here, thus further increasing this economy

The system can be setup an easy way:

  • 20% of the Ad revenue goes to the website and 80% goes to the authors, distributed by their % share of unique visitors that read their article, compared to the total unique visitors of the website.
  • The advertisers could pay in Steem, Steem Dollar or even Bitcoin, but by using Steem currencies, this would make them purchase it first, which would add demand to Steem and thus stabilizing the price and stopping it's downfall.
  • Of course this would need moderators who would approve ads manually, so that nasty ads could not be added.

Overall I think it would be a great idea. A 728x90 ad, is no big deal and it could considerably improve this economy!

I agree.. I miss the beginning of Steemit when you can get big rewards for yout contents and not only penny. Maybe it's a way to come back to this state. And for those who don't like adds there's always Adblock :)

Yes, and it would be more sustainable. Even an amateur could get 100-200 views/article, who may only get 1-2 cents for it through votes. And for 1000 views, you pay usually 0.01 BTC, so that would make them earn 0.001/article for example.

So instead of earning 1 cent you earn 1 dollar, which is literally 100x better!

Hello, I am owner of www.rocksking.com. I want steemit would place an banner in my site... Further, I just would like to know how to go ahead for this purpose. Please advise me or contact me through my website.

I think it would be better to allow users to insert ads into their articles from a Steemit-provided advertising selection. Each author could choose to boost their income with advertisements, on a personal basis. The Steemit community could collectively get better advertising rates this way while not forcing advertising on the entire site.

Edit: I made more on a single Steemit post than I ever have on any advertising anywhere on the internet tho. Advertising is basically just an extra layer that costs more.

Yes but then people would get downvoted or disadvantaged after they use too much ads. So it's better if the ad system is there by default, so that you can earn from that no matter what, and then earn from the votes.

That's why I was saying a steemit-provided platform - users could check "Yes enable ads" like on Youtube, and select what type of ad they want. That way a page wouldn't be all ads.

Then everyone would opt-out and it would make it useless. Even youtube is cutting the ad revenue to some channels because everyone is using ad blocker or opting out.

So I think the ad should be there by default, you can perhaps select what type of ad you want, like the topic of it, but not opt-out.

I mean blog authors could opt in or out, not visitors. Like, you can turn ads on or off for your personal posts, and everyone would see them or not see them.

Ok but that is what I said earlier that then whales would discriminate some posts that have too much ads on them and intentionally not vote on them.

So some people who are already earning a lot through votes and choose to put ads too, might be looked upon by whales as something negative, and they would start voting less on them.

So they would think like:

  • Why should I vote on him when he is already earning from ads?

So its better if the ads are there by default,so that the votes wont be discriminate by this criteria.

It's the same thing with 100% Steem power posts.

I have observed that people who put 100% Power Up posts earn more than those that chose to get 50-50%.

Interesting points made

Yes you are correct. I am also looking for that hope they will add this in future.

I think the idea as such is very good, especially when you think about the future of Steemit and Steem himself, but also needs a management that should go beyond the people who would have the responsibility of approving or not advertising, and That if you put yourself to see that is censorship and precisely one of the strengths of our network is precisely this idea of not censoring content, now that it could be solved (at least in teeoria) through smart contracts, something that would also have repercussion, Steemit's blockhain seems to be very flexible. This idea really is very interesting, and you have reason @profitgenerator in that its implementation is simple but also requires updating and revision of technical details, as well as even a new Hard Fork.
