A Few Steemit Ideas...

I got a few more ideas to improve Steemit, and the user experience here. These should be fairly easy to implement, and it would increase the quality of the website and the incentive structure, not to mention the stability of STEEM.

1) Followers of an author to earn more / curation, than nonfollowers

If a person was a follower of the author, before the author published his post, he should earn more % of the curation reward than the other upvoters. This would incentivize people to follow people they like, and would create a more integrated author-follower relationship, it would technically be easier to become successful, once you have a bunch of followers upvoting your posts. It would benefit everybody

2) Favorite Post Feature

An author should be able to select 1 post of his/hers, and make that as favorite, and it would show up at the top of his profile page. So whenever somebody clicks on an author's profile, he should see his favorite post, regardless of how old it is. It would be like Youtube's profile page, where people can select 1 of their videos and show that on the profile page.

3) Remove Steem Dollar

It might came out as a good idea, but if you think about it, it is not. Besides posts don't even give you SBD anymore, only Steem. Steem Dollar creates unnecessary inflation, when you convert it into Steem. The dollar peg is unsustainable without actual dollars backing it, and so far nothing backs SBD, only the market exchange rate and some interest. This is very inefficient, it gives unnecessary inflation to STEEM, and the 1 week conversion period system is not very efficient, besides SBD is hardly used other than the promotion feature, which I guess can be done with STEEM too.

So SBD is pretty much useless, it probably occupies a lot of space in the blockchain, and it's not even listed in exchanges like @shapeshiftio and others.

It would be logical to merge all SBD into STEEM, and have only 2 currencies:

  • STEEM - Liquid, tradeable, transferrable, used for p2p trading for the platform, etc
  • STEEP POWER - Long Term Asset, for curation, represents stake in Steem network, earns interest, etc

I just think a lot of bloat and inefficiency can be cleaned up if SBD is removed, and STEEM is used in it's place.

As for the inflation problem....

  • As for the inflation problem, well SBD didn't resolved it, it just shifted all the burden to STEEM. If you want actual STEEM-BASED-DOLLAR, then somebody should create an actual fund that is backed by dollar, or something like Tether at least, that way we would have real dollar-backed-steem, and it would not create inflation. Or atleast we should have Bitcoin backed Steem, as a segregated portion of Steemit, so that people can save their money that way.

It would not only eliminate inflation, but it would actually raise in value when Bitcoin rises, a better monetary policy in my opinion!

Interesting ideas. I fully support your first two proposals. The third one, however, seems extremely difficult to evaluate, without a very detailed investigation of all possible outcomes.
It can most definitely not be as simple as you present it.

Yes the 3rd one is a bit complicated, but given that SBD is not rewarded anymore, it's supply should shrink now, and with 1 patch it could all be converted into STEEM, sort of like a 1 last shot of inflation, and afterwards only STEEM and STEEM POWER will be used. It would free up a lot of space on the blockchain, make things more efficient, and remove the future inflation that was caused by the SBD->STEEM conversions. It could be gradually phased out.
