A beginner’s guide to surviving first week on Steemit

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

Introduction

I signed up for Steemit in late December 2017 but only enthusiastically started posting in early January 2018.

Having been fascinated with how quality content is rewarded on Steemit, I have been following some outstanding people, from which to learn how to write up, present, and promote content in return for audiences and rewards.

This guide, complied by me the newbie, may get your early life easier.

Calling in bots and using tags to upvote you

If you are serious about Steemit, original content and photos are fundamental to your success. Food, street, sports, vehicle, city, landscape, or architecture photo posts are relatively easy categories to start with. Take some photos, write something about the photos, post them up, and give them meaningful tags (will be further explained later in this section).

I suggest you to keep your early posts short and concise at the outset (I will explain why this is preferred in later text). To make your photos appealing, you may retouch photos using photo apps (e.g. Pixlr), They are free and easy to use.

For a food, street, sports, vehicle, city, landscape, or architecture post with at least an original photo in it, follow @photocontests and tag your post to a specific genre, you may receive upvotes and some $ rewards. Try it.

There are bots like @originalworks that judge post originality. Without plagiarised content, you may be upvoted and rewarded financially. Tag them to wake them up. They will be at your service soon.

However, the more I have been enthusiastically involved, the more issues and obstacles have been confronting me. Disappointing ones are

  • Limited bandwidth
  • Few audiences and low payouts

Limited bandwidth

Have you ever noticed that each user is assigned a certain amount of bandwidth? Beginners have less but advanced and reputable ones have more.

Perhaps you have been enthusiastically sharing pictures and text in posts across categories and interacting with the community, if this is the case, you might have been confronted (or will be) by a pop up message - You are out of bandwidth.

Possible solution 1 to limited bandwidth

Running out of bandwidth is annoying, you must wait until you are recharged. How to tell how much you have?
www.steemd.com/@prch

Going to this website can tell you everything about your account activities. Change my @prch to your own after slash.

Possible solution 2 to limited bandwidth

While you still have your bandwidth, try writing more and replying to quality posts more to level up your Steem power. With more Steem power, you may be less prone to the bandwidth problem.

Possible solution 3 to limited bandwidth

Do not publish unless your content and photos are finalised. It is annoying that you want to update your post but you are not having bandwidth. You do not want your audiences to read your draft, do you?

Few audiences and low rewards

No matter how hard I have been trying now, it can be frustrating at times my audiences are relatively low. It takes time to grow but you may fasttrack it.

Possible solution 1 to few audiences and low rewards

Call in bots specialised in restemming, you possibly can reach a large of potential audiences. People who have read the resteem may upvote and follow you.

As far as I know, there are steemvote, restemmit and minnowsupport and the likes. Try sending each of them or all an amount of Steemit dollar for each possbiel way of have your posts resteemed.

Possible solution 2 to few audiences and low rewards

Join a community by including their tags to your posts. ** As far as I know, there are @thesteemengine, #cn, @teamaustralia, @steemusa, and @teammalaysia.

Be mindful of rules and obligations of each community. Some are free to join but some are not. Some require posts to be written in English but some may be casual about languages. Some may not like cross-using community tags.

Possible solution 3 to few audiences and low rewards

Call in bots and pay them in Steem dollar to upvote your posts. This must be done each time after new post has been uploaded.

As far as I can remember, there are bots like @minnowsupport, @upyou, @kittybot, @sleeplesswhale, @lovejuice, @seakraken, @upmewhale, and @mercurybot that accept Steem dollars for upvoting on a per-post basis.

Thanks @maverickfoo for his wonderful post on Steembottracker.com, the post explains in detail how each bot works and how you should bid not to lose your SBDs. ** But be mindful of losing your SBDs because it is bid-based and you may end up with a negative ROI return.

Possible solution 4 to few audiences and low rewards

Delegate your Steem power to bots like @minnowbooster or to community leaders like @justyy. They are able to generate financial rewards for you around the clock.

As far as I know, when bots acting on behalf of those leaders upvote posts in the community, it can generate some rewards for you. If you do not want to delegate, you can cancel and recall your investment anytime.

There may be a minimum amount of Steem Power required in each delegation, which is subject to rules of individual leaders.

Possible solution 5 to few audiences and low rewards

Upvote posts and interact with people regularly (Mind your voting power and bandwidth. Go to the same website appeared above to regulate). This certainly build friendships and may help generate rewards in return.

** I have found some people who have not started a post but have upvoted and replied. They have been rewarded. This may work for you.

Possible solution 6 to few audiences and low rewards

Add your posts to @steemitmap, to try to expose your posts to people interested in the location your post is based in.

Possible solution 7 to few audiences and low rewards

If your post has 25 upvotes but does not exceed $25 in payout, you can seek help from @dropahead. The group are willing to help underpaid contributors.

** I hope you have found this post useful. Useful information can be fragmented on Steemit and it may take much time to discover.

What I have said in this post comes from my own experiences and research.

This is a subjective guide for starters but does not contain any financial or investment advice.

Content is original.

www.steemd.com/@prch

嘗試發送每一個或所有一定數額的Steemit Dollar(據我所知,截至2018年1月初,從0.5到1個SBD)為每個重新設置一個職位。

Sort:

Good advice. I have never run up on the bandwidth issue.

High steem power makes a difference :-)
