[Suggestion to Devs: Notifications for Resteems?]
How come we don't get notified if someone resteems our post?
I was talking with @beeskee last night because he let me know he uploaded a new episode of his Let's Play videos. I was surprised he let me know, because while I didn't get around to leaving a comment on it, I had upvoted and resteemed it.
He said that Steemit never notified him that I had.
Frankly, I have no idea if any of my posts have been resteemed. It's always cool to see when people reblog your posts on Tumblr, and I imagine it'd be just as awesome to be notified when something is resteemed.
Now, we don't exactly get "notified" when people upvote our posts, but at least there's a number indicator, and we can see some of the people who upvoted. That's all I'm saying, is that it'd be cool to have a number next to the resteem button to see who all's resteemed our stuff.
Also, why are we not allowed to resteem our own posts? I guess it's kind of inconsequential, but I like to reblog things a lot on Tumblr, to the extent that I tend to accidentally bury my own posts... I'm trying to not have this same problem on Steemit, though at least on Tumblr, if I don't have enough time to make something to post for the day, I can at least reblog one of my older posts so that if someone goes to my front page, they see something that's actually from me.
On Steemit, I can only resteem about five things before my stuff gets completely buried... Ideally, I could just upload more posts every day, but I'm working on commissions right now, so I'm doing my best just to try to upload once every day.
Then again, when I reblog things on Tumblr, I usually like to add something to it to update the post... Maybe in the future we could add comments to our resteems right before we post them? I'm not sure, maybe that would make it complicated, like how would people decide whose post it is at that point?
Though if Steemit ever gets on the ball with co-authorship, it could just be split between anybody who makes new comments on it... though I guess that could be easily abused by people who just resteem posts and add something like "." to get upvotes and never post any original content themselves... Maybe there has to be a character minimum? Idk, I guess that idea should go to someone smarter than me. XD
Anyway, what do you guys think?
Want to see more of my stuff? Check out my [Masterpost]!
Check me out on [deviantART] and [Tumblr], too!
I would be happy with a resteem count just the same way comments are counted, I think that would fulfill this need. However along the lines of resteemers gaining steem because there where comments on their resteem, theoretically resteemers are already being paid for their contribution for having upvoted, I mean I never resteem something without having upvoted it, so that seems kinda moot.
I was really thinking more along the lines of when people on Tumblr reblog posts, and start a reblog chain, so the post winds up becoming a whole other beast compared to the original post.
Though... I didn't realize people get paid for upvoting? XD I'll be honest, I don't totally understand all of the economics of this site lol. I haven't put my two cents on the possibility of getting rid of Steem Dollars for this reason. xD
I was aware that people get paid when you upvote your post, and every time you upvote your vote becomes a little less valuable. I guess that explains what it's talking about when it says x amount has been paid to Authors and y amount has been paid to Curators.
Thats right a curator is someone who votes the post before it gets discovered.
Thanks for explaining it! ^^)
My pleasure.
One additional suggestion is a "disable resteem notifications for this post" option - I've heard of various Tumblr users closing their blog or making a new one because they can't deal with a million reblog notifications. XD
Edit: Did you do the art for this post?
o . o) Wow, really? I've never heard of that, though I have read joke posts about... something to the equivalent of "trying to find a tumblr friend in real life - reblog one of their old posts and follow the cry of dispair" or something like that LOL
Which, I'm really starting to get, because I made a really random looping animation a while back, and when I get a notification from Tumblr, I'm all excited until I find out it's just another like/reblog from that post XD
I also hate how on deviantART, even if I splinter the notification bar or whatever it's called into the different categories, favorites and llamas are listed under "feedback", and when I'm excitedly waiting for a reply from someone, it makes me wanna rip my hair out when it turns out someone just gave me a freaking llama XDD
And yeah! I do the artwork for all my posts! (っ≧ڡ❛ )b Though most of them are silly chibis cuz I don't have much time to draw my own stuff right now, LOL. (≧▽≦)ノ゙
EDIT: By "my own stuff", I mean my characters lol. I'm working on a request and a couple commissions right now, so I'm busy drawing other people's characters LOL.
I think it's mostly for the posts with literally a million reblogs. Some poor bastard got a million of those tumblr notifications for some stupid post they made ages ago. A few of those super popular post folks are still around. Perchu ("the moreos guy") is still on tumblr last time I looked, for example. XD - but some others have vanished under the deluge of like/reblog notifications. Mouseover their name on tumblr when you see one of those posts on your dash, and see if it says "Deactivated" - tho it can get kinda sad. :/ - at least it's worth cash here. XD
And yeah overspam from notifications can get out of control on some places, I wasn't aware of the issue with Deviantart but I can't art lol. I've heard some stories tho, I'm careful to avoid that nowadays but I went through my own personal hell of 5 IM programs blinking at me nonstop, decades ago.
Anyway regarding art, if you still do commissions and are interested in this sort of thing, I may have some work for you for my Youtube channel. It's fairly simplistic stuff by relative standards but it is actual paying work. Cash money via paypal or I guess we can pay via steem/steem dollars here :D Either works.
Mostly aligning images and stuff and some custom drawing. Let me know! :)
I haven't heard of him... but man, that's really sad! I have a couple of inactive Tumblr and dA from moving my accounts, but it always sucks when a friend leaves... T^T)୨"
You want me to draw some stuff and do some editing? And are cool with paying in crypto??
..........that.......
WOULD BE AWESOME!!! ∑ヾ(òロóノ"
Hahahaha, but yeah, over-the-top reactions aside, I'd definately be interested! ^^) I've always wanted to take crypto commissions LOL XD
Do you want to discuss it over steemit.chat? (still haven't really used it myself, yet... never had a reason to lol)
We could also talk about it over email, though idk if I wanna post that publicly or anything.
Or I guess I could message you on YouTube? XD
Anyway, I prefer to talk about that sort of stuff in PM where it's easier to find later lol. Besides, on Steemit, a reply chain can only have... I think it was 6 replies for some reason??
Artists should be paid for their work. :D
Yeah I noticed the reply limit on another thread, oops, and I think we're getting close again. And Youtube messaging is fine, if you want to use that. I'll check out steemit.chat some time but my schedule is pretty weird most days so live chat doesn't work out too well.
I can't figure out how to message you! ヾ(。•́︿•̀。)ノ‶
Do you know how? This is my YouTube account: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZ-VFClJBfegbzOCX8Bzs9g
The instructions say to go to the about page, but neither one of us appears to have one?? Weird!
I think it will need to be via google+ - I tried searching for yours by name but there's a bunch. Here's mine: https://plus.google.com/u/0/108591609176168004547

Cool....!
I think it is a good idea! XD I resteemed this post btw, let me know if you get a notification.
LOL I didn't get a notification that you resteemed it (I can't even see the resteem button on my own posts lol), but thank you!
I decided since you suggested it to me, I'd share the profits with you~
It's literally less than a dollar, but... XD LOLEvery little bit helps, thanks! <3 Your post got a lot of votes and attention, I'm glad. :)
I do see the Resteem icon here still, but it's lit up because I already resteemed it.
It's my pleasure~ 。.:☆*:・'ヽ(・▽・)ノ
Yeah, it's so cool-! Lol it's extra crazy cuz I think my stuff gets more likes (upvotes) on Steemit than any other site XD
Well, except for maybe back in the day when I posted rampant fanart all over the place LOL.
ᗒ▽ᗕ)
Happy New Years', by the way!! ヾ(o'▽'o)ノ‶ Lol though where I am, we still got about another 30 minutes until the new year starts-! XD
Likewise, my youtube channel could certainly use the viewers. XD I think Steemit has really helped. I've bought a bunch of Steem too, tho some of it is Steem dollars right now I think Steem itself might skyrocket, especially if they keep Steem Dollars. - There's no other cryptocurrency as suitable for things like convenience stores/retail stores, in my opinion anyway. Fast confirmations and a currency pegged to the dollar for stability... I'm rambling, I need to make a post about this lol.
Happy New Year!
Oh hey nice formatting works in comments. <3
#ToTheMoon!! XDD
Yeah, tbh I don't really get the economics a lot of the time LMAO. I do like SBD though, because it's really convenient~ ヾ(o´▽`o)ノ‶
I'm surprised there's already some online stores that accept STEEM, though! It's really cool~!!☆
Do you think physical stores will really accept SBD anytime soon? It would be awesome!
If you did make a post about it, I'd definitely have to check it out... I've off-and-on followed Bitcoin for a long time, though all that technical stuff usually goes over my head! ┐(´ v ` )┌
And yeah! The formatting is great~ A little bummed that all that HTML I've fiddled with over the years doesn't usually work, though XD (Sometimes it does... but not usually lol)
I just love how I can embed images directly in! It's neat!!☆
Yeah, it turns green when you upvote it lol. It's a nice color~☆
XDDDD
